I mean, you know the law, so I acknowledge being outclassed here… but… if this is about conduct detrimental and damaging the image & reputation of the NFL, I don’t see how the Texans aren’t catching more sh*t here.
Honestly, it really isn't all that much about the law. It's more about recognizing what you do and don't actually know. And as you said, it is about "conduct" that is detrimental to the league. So, you have to point to some specific conduct in which the Texans that was bad. So exactly what was their wrongful conduct? The mere fact that they were Watson's team doesn't prove they did anything wrong.
Like if Watson did this say 3 times then they found out and took the right steps, he would be fined/suspended a whole lot less. So when/what did they know?
But that's the whole point, isn't it? You're asking the question about what they knew and when they knew it, but we don't have that answer. So unless we actually have the answer, how can we say that the Texans did something specific worthy of being punished?
The issue here seems to be one of quantity of offenses. Like the NFL has videos of dudes punching women, and murdering people, and shipping wholesale quantities of drugs, and this case is apparently worse. So it has to be the quantity, although he wasn’t found criminally guilty of anything.
I get that they might have settled with women, but that legal side has nothing to do with League reputation and image, no? I also get that the team can’t be suspended, but they should certainly be getting lit up for this too, right? Right?!?
It's the same point. We can point at Watson and be absolutely clear about exactly what he did wrong. There's simply isn't that evidence with respect to the Texans, and we can't assume that it exists simply because it's trendy to assume that the suits are always the bad guys.
