Can Windler raise his level of defensive play enough to even be considered to plug our hole at SF? Post Mitchell trade my highest priority for our small forward is defense first. I don't think Okoro can guard the taller wings. Windler is a little longer and he has good defensive fundamentals, but his health and athleticism might not play as a regular rotation guy. At least, it won't play until/unless he shows it does. If Windler could show out that he can bother elite wings then his offense would be good enough, we all know his corner three will come around some day.

Definitely agree the 3 spot should be a defensive spot.

What you want is a guy like Theoretical Windler. His defensive rebounding would really help end possessions. Disruptive length for contests, 3 point shooting.

None of us are confident in his shooting or durability.

I think if the guy isn't a D and 3, there isn't much of a point. If you needed a 1 way 3pt shooter Cedi is fine and can get as hot as anybody. His 3pt shot suffered from lower quality and more self generated looks in the 2nd half.

It makes sense to try Okoro out. He is older now and has more experience. Let's see if this is like Larry in his 3rd year when he actually started shooting the 3 more.

I absolutely trust Windler's shooting -- it's not been great in the NBA -- but there aren't a lot of minutes or shot attempts. Hard to be consistent when you are averaging 9 MPG and 1.4 3PT attempts.

He was a dynamite shooter in college - and has been a very good shooter from NBA distances in the D-League (39.9%). With only 147 NBA attempts, 36.5% is still within his 1-sigma uncertainty.

Moreover, he has good size and a very quick release - at 35%, he demands a lot more gravity than Okoro, who is shorter with a slower release. The gravity is probably more important than the actual percentage in this case (though of course, they are linked -- you don't pull defenders if you are shooting sub 30%).

I don't trust Windler to be healthy for more than 40 games a season - which is why he's 3rd behind Okoro and Cedi for our starting 3 spot.

I swear to jesus I came into this thread intending to post that "Hypothetical Windler" is the perfect fit at 3. "Theoretical Windler" works too.

Windler finished the season shooting 0/19 from 3. Most starting 3s would physically destroy him as we’ve seen with physical backup 3s he’s faced.

Not even Planet Bullshit would start him at the three.

He's a significantly better defender than most people give him credit for...

And physical 3s are what Mobley is built for.

If Windler wants to stay healthy this year, and have a nice improvement overall ..he really at his highest potential, a really good fit at 3 in this lineup. But hard to imagine him staying healthy enough to prove it.

I’m pulling for Windler this year. Been saying it but hope this year is the one. Don’t forget that he is really good at rebounding and this is what we need consistently. I believe he and Wade are good fits at the 3 spot.

The theoretical Dylan Windler that we thought we were getting when we drafted him would be a perfect fit. I'm definitely rooting for him -- it would be awesome if he can make a giant step in that direction. Windler and Okoro are the two guys on this roster that could most raise the ceiling of this team by making a significant leap this season.

When is PIP gonna weigh in on all this giddy Windler talk?

Totally agree. I’m a believe of Danny Green type of shooting players. Windler can be that one day.

And if you remember I’m Windler’s relative :chuckle:

"Theoretical" Windler would be an excellent fit with our rotation. The question is, does he exist?
