It will be interesting to watch the careers of Windler and Keldon Johnson, who went 29th to the Spurs, as there was apparently some indecision from the Cavs on which guy to take.

Either it was indecision...or a deliberate plan to ferret out a leaker. If it was the latter, that would be awesome.

Joe Harris is a decent comp. Coach on the floor type. Scrappy and more athletic than you think. Has a chance to grow into a solid piece and his range is elite

Windler is a better athlete than Joe, which is somehow undersold a bit, even after he really popped at the combine. I was pretty surprised it was glossed over a bit by ESPN. Windler is pretty damn twitchy for his skill and body type. I think it's just because he's white that people focus on other things.

Windler:

Max Vert: 37.5"(#17 overall at combine for any position)
Shuttle Run: 2.94 (#5 overall at combine for any position)
Lane Agility: 10.70 (#12 overall at combine for any position)

So he's a pretty explosive leaper and is quick / explosive in short burst drills, where you change direction.

Harris:

Max Vert: 33.5"
Shuttle Run: 2.92
Lane Agility: 11.11

That's a pretty big difference when you consider how much longer and taller Windler is (+1.5" height, +1.5" reach, +4" Wingspan).

So you’re pretty confident the Cavs late first rounder is going to be better than one of the greatest shooters of all time without him having hit the floor?

Let’s stick with Joe Ingles or a lesser Gordon Hayward.

Windler is from Indiana and he played in Belmont County so he's a combination of Larry Bird and John Havlicek.

I like a young Mike Dunleavy Jr. comparison a little better, who was a decent athlete and a plus defender in the league before the back issues.

6'7.5 with that 6'10 wing span.

As you say, 38 inch vertical at the combine, Top 5 in agility drills regardless of position.

All of the tools are there to defend. He just carried such a large load offensively at Belmont--running off ball screens, working for his shots--that he didn't have it to give on the other end at all times. I think he can be an average or plus defender in the NBA in the right system. Luckily, I think Beilein is the perfect coach for this kid.

It’s just funny to observe as a guy who has never watched him play and seeing all of the data come in proving his measurables and play style aren’t necessarily that of the standard early 90s-early 00’s white guy that people still want to make player comps for.

Like...you don’t HAVE to compare white guys to other white guys if their games are more comparable to black guys. Hell, even if its a light-skinned black guy ffs. Scouts do this too. Nobody says anything.

I was watching his Twitter feed during the draft and he tweeted that the Cavs were going to take Keldon Johnson. I was bummed because I actually wanted Windler in this area and thought some other team would grab him soon. It wasn't a couple minutes and he said hold on - that he was hearing it was Windler instead. He had it before Woj and I noticed today that original tweet about Johnson isn't on his feed anymore.
