I prefer to do whatever possible to extend Ramirez. Marte is good, but I don't know if I agree with Marte being 90% of Ramirez.

Marte I think batting numbers wise is closer to Brantley then JRam... I want him to compliment JRam at the end of the day, not replace him.

They're comparable, Jose with more power.. Marte with a little better average.. Marte is having a very good 2021... "To compliment" would be nice.. assuming there is an extension.. For this "You're the GM Inspired" posting.. there is no extension.. and won't be...

Jose Ramirez Career #'s:
.277.353.853
In 2021 480 AB's Counting Stats are: 65 XBH including 33 HR's
.254.345.534.880

Ketel Marte Career #'s:
.287.345.798
In 2021: 280 AB's: Counting stats are 34 XBH including 11 HR's
.319.378.523.901

Michael Brantley's Career #'s
.298.355.440.795

In 2021: 454 AB: Counting stats are 39 XBH's including 8 HR's or a little "lite"
.315.367.441.808

Edit: the 90 %: @ 280 to 480 AB's: Marte would have 58 XBH to 65 XBH about 90 %.. give or take a single XBH.. So, right there

The career numbers put Marte and Brantley at the current moment in the same category do they not?

Personally if I am the GM, JRam's extension is more important than anything else this off-season...

But in the case we cannot extend JRam, getting a Ketel Marte isn't a bad plan, he just doesn't hit all the same boxes for me as a player, but if this trade went down, we would have another prospect we can flip elsewhere as well if needed...

Great questions and thanks for reading!

Catching being a rarer commodity than lower level power hitters/middle infielders is what I am thinking at this point by protecting Lavastida.

The 40-man for the Rule 5 won’t be the 40-man heading into camp. I may be off base, but I wouldn’t be adverse to bringing back Berto for more appropriate dollars. For once it would nice to have an actual prospect at Triple A to bring up instead of a journeyman catcher prone to catcher’s interference calls. One can hope!

You have it more of get as many as possible to the 40 man then sign a veteran Catcher (resign in cause of Perez) or make a trade for a catcher?

Not sure why we're comparing Marte and Ramirez, but all one has to do is look at the numbers which show that you're statement looks to be true. I would add that we have no comparison to Marte in the current OF mix. Not anyone even close.

The trade GSon posted Indians/Guardians got Ketel Marte back plus a top catching prospect and another prospect for JRam and Rocchio...

So it was we were comparing who we were getting in the trade...

Got it, thanks Coach. I wouldn't do that, but I see the 22 season as one where the Guardians are in the mix. Trading JRam and bringing on Marte isn't a good trade off IMO. I see now that what John was saying and I wholeheartedly agree. I do feel that there is more than enough prospect value to acquire someone like Marte without giving up JRam, but there are a couple untouchables for me.

In this hypothetical example.. JRam is NOT extended.. therefore.. the decision is made to trade him for prospects and players that will replace as much as approximately 90 % of JRam's performance numbers.. while acquiring assets that further improve the club. The catcher and the SP that are included.. would immediately replace two guys in our top ten prospects... Both will be at AA or higher. Getting an ML'er like Marte.. assuages around 90 % of the loss of JRam.. no more.. no less..

That’s my thinking, get what you can to the 40, worry about Hedges backup after R5 draft. What I don’t know enough of is truly how close Lavastida/Naylor are and what their floor/ceilings are. Sure I can read some scouting reports but it isn’t the same as seeing them every day. So really, how close are they and how good will they be when they arrive? That would play into how aggressive the FO gets in obtaining a backup for Hedges. Like I mentioned earlier, it would be nice to get Berto back. I may be off base, but a possible contract would be to take that $7M for 2022 and spin it into $7M over 2 years. Absolute worst case is the team eats $3M in 2023, but if a reduced-use Berto makes it OK through 2022 and someone is knocking loudly on the big league door, maybe Berto is a bit easier to deal?

ahh.. but herein lies the GM thing.. We are not going to extend JRam for this example.. so he is best traded during THIS off season..

This is what can happen.. (not that it will)..

If your choice is to hold onto JRam for 2022 and trade him for one year of JRam or let him walk for a draft pick.. I can see where even YOU would disagree with that...

The biggest question as GSon said, if you cannot extend JRam, what would you do with him?

Personally I feel like we still have to make another move to upgrade the team since we didn't get any better, we actually got worse as an organization in 22...

What other move would you make from here on out then? We essentially swapped JRam and Rocchio for a Marte, and two guys who would likely be in our top 5ish prospects but are farther away from the pros than Rocchio is... I want to see what your next move would be since I feel like we wanna compete in 22 and that current roster I feel like we cannot...

For me Gson, it has less to do with a JRam extension then it has to do with any roster improvements this coming offseason. If we're rolling with what we've got and JRam cannot be extended then by all means trade him. If they intend to significantly add to this roster then it's best to keep JRam.
