My album rec was Jeff Buckley’s Grace. If you’re already a fan, dig through the channel the youtube vid is on below as its owned by his estate. This song is a great place to start:
Really tragic death. One of my all time faves. Truly one of the greatest albums of all time, and the dude only put out one!

I went down a rabbit hole of researching this guy yesterday.

I’m only actually starting the album this morning.

Great call

So happy you guys are enjoying it.

We owe you all a show where we just discuss topics requested in the think tank section, especially now that we’re streaming live every show.

Glad you enjoy.

Did you stumble upon this? Thom Yorke says he owes Fake Plastic Trees to none other than Jeff Buckley.

There’s so much Led Zeppelin in his instrumentation and even in Jeff’s voice. He was on a different stratosphere than Plant (and name anyone) vocally, but he uses similar tools and inspiration was clear. And in fact, he disappeared into the water while singing one of their songs.

I always enjoy the pod cast, my issue is i find it hard ( basketball and Cavs) to really disagree with much that is being talked about. I will say @2 For The Brew may have saved this season for me. All of the seasons of bad basketball i have suffered through, this one has been the hardest for me to enjoy. I actively have had to talk myself into continuing to watch. Im at a point where your building for a championship or its a bust as a fan. I have been super frustrated as a fan, from all the bullshit lip service JBB gave us in the off season to watching another star just shutting it down, its been miserable for me. I had a hard time enjoying all the wins accept against GSW (because fuck the warriors) and last night. Last night at about the 3 minute 40 second mark of the second quarter when Mitchell shook off the funk and forgot he was quietly quitting hit that step back 3 and started enjoying basketball for the minute and playing hard on both sides of the ball with in the system. I don't think as constructed we win, but I should enjoy the process and development more. So Brew thanks for that reminder, i'm going to try to take your advice. No promises, JBB is still pretty irking but there was some beautiful basketball played last night.

Back to bball…

Dead on balls

Buckley was great. I discovered him in '97 when I heard about his death. It added a tragic mystique to his album. In a similar way to Brandon Lee's death and The Crow. In a weird way, the tragedy amplified the music.

Great feedback @RonG

I’m in the process of combining Brews call into one 10 minute segment that will be live on our YouTube page and shared here by days end.

@2 For The Brew , you nailed it. I felt like I was in the “fans” locker room at halftime and coach Brew has me ready to approach the rest of this season with the right mindset to take it game by game.

Seriously, great call

THIS is what drove my research yesterday.

Similar to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin or Otis Redding, the music is amplified by me learning about the tragedy first. In all 4 cases, the music is GREAT even without.

So true. Buckleys music was soulful and sorrowful on its own. But, when you superimpose the tragedy over what is already present, it gets taken to an almost otherworldly level.

Otis was very much coming from the same place.

3:05- 3:08 on Try a Little Tenderness and 2:05-2:08 in Heart’s Alone are six of my favorite seconds in music history.

Another note on Buckley: I always bundled him up with Nick Drake. Both died too young. Both had this soulful ethereal style of music.(also helps that i discovered them at about the same time of my life)
