Little Brother, May The Lord Watch (let me know if you watch it)

Might as well comment here.
I like how you and Jigo start off with talking about other stuff on these pods before you get to the Cavs. Browns, food across cities (a little disappointed to hear that Charlotte's was wack, that's a city near and dear. But since I am obligated for one STL trip a year due to family I will check out the place you mentioned). I consume a lot of Cavs pods and I think this might be your signature feature now.

When you talked about albums in a previous ep, I knew you were talking about Shuggie Otis without mentioning a single song. IMO, he was a bit of a progenitor to Prince. I got that album around the same time off the strength of "Strawberry Letter 23" which I knew from the Brothers Johnson.

And now Little Brother -- I swear you and I have too many of the same experiences. Little Brother not only being same-aged guys at me, from the South but making the kind of music I liked to listen to, AND ALSO having a front row seat to watching it all unfold into what we know now on the message boards. One of the times Nicolay (of Foreign Exchange) came to Cleveland for a show and we actually had a bit of a conversation -- he knew who I was before I even said a word. Phonte, Pooh and 9th reminded me much of the dudes I used to be around as a youngin in South Carolina talking hip-hop. What I loved about the doc is that you learned much more about who they were as people, and also how they got to where they are now. It was a bit of a bummer that 9th himself didn't participate but I think they explained possible reasons why very well. The soundtrack to my last year in SC, moving to Ohio, and the rookie-sophmore years in CLE.

The Cavs discussion is as great as ever. I will say this. The Blue/Orange scheme is what brought me to the Cavs in the first place. I mistook them for a certain other team and once I saw they were actually Cleveland I just locked onto them. Any time gear of that era pops up for sale, I have to slap my own wrist NOT to buy it. Just got one of the hoodies of that style in the mail today.

Side note: The Donkeys are a dirty-ass team under Payton. But more of my thoughts on that are in the Browns forum.

Another note on Buckley: I always bundled him up with Nick Drake. Both died too young. Both had this soulful ethereal style of music.(also helps that i discovered them at about the same time of my life)
First time I listened to Nick Drake! Great rec.

Drake and Buckley are pretty different, stylistically. Just something about them had my brain categorize them together. Drake is stylistically a little closer to some of his contemporaries in the early 70s than he is to Buckley. But he still has a bit of that same ethereal quality. Regardless, I love both.

There’s a lot of Donovan to Nick Drake.

THIS!!!

First and foremost, appreciate you listening brotha

I think we need to connect. Did you just say PROGENITOR?!?! and use it in a sentence building a bridge between Prince Rogers Nelson and Shuggie Otis? Two of my all time favorite musicians? All you had to do was find a way to bring Steveland Morris into your sentence and I would have called you directly to find out how we got separated at birth.

We are of the same mind on 9th wonder too. Phonte Coleman is one of my top 5 rappers of all-time, but the TRUE superstar in LB, remains on my producer Mount Rushmore as one of my top 4 producers ever, Professor Patrick Douthith.

(my producer wall of fame in my office)

Of course it broke my heart seeing they still have ego keeping them apart in the documentary, and that definitely wont be fixed by both Pooh and Tay taking shots at 9th in the doc. 9th, similar to me, simply doesnt want to operate in the gap. He covered alot of this in his documentary from about a decade ago "The Wonder Years". He is all about gain. The sooner Pooh and Tay can see that, they'll be able to reconnect and give us the true LB reconnection album we deserve.

(the 9th wonder documentary, check it out)

Good to connect with you brotha. Call in and leave your take on Cavs of course, but music too. And use PROGENITOR in your call :chuckle:

And by the way @The Oi -- Grace was a HEAVILY discussed record in the circle/message board I was in in the 00s.... great album

Sounds like a nice board.

It’s cool how it’s gradually built up momentum and appreciation over time. I’m glad it popped into my mind in the middle of the night a couple days ago out of nowhere.

Did you like Sketches? I can’t say I really enjoyed it. If I’d never have heard Grace before it, I think I could have listened to it with a much more open mind. I’ll give it another shot, but it hasn’t done it for me on first listen. Sounded too much like other bands and wasn’t shocking that it was incomplete.

@RchfldCavRaised I ended up buying that book you recommended, The Power of Unwavering Focus. I'm only 4 hours in (10 hour book), but there's some life changing stuff in this book man. I've always tried to practice mindfulness, so it's really hitting home with me. His analogies and the exercises he has you go through are amazing. I've had several aha moments in the short time I've been listening.

I know a lot of people in my personal life that could benefit from such a message.

MY BROTHER!!!

I appreciate you majorly for checking this out. He personally came and spoke to my EO Business forum a few months ago and I had a one on one with him and left feeling like I was just baptized in mindfulness.

Did you pick it up on audible? I have a few credits but figured the book that he signed and handed to me was the best experience.

Wow that's pretty awesome, I bet that was quite the experience!

Yeah it was on sale for $9. I did wonder how it varied from the book because in the audio version he says "In this audio program". Bro should've taken a Claritin before recording it though, he sounds nasally as hell :chuckle:

So happy you guys are enjoying it.

We owe you all a show where we just discuss topics requested in the think tank section, especially now that we’re streaming live every show.

I'm not a podcast guy, and RRJ is the first and only podcast to which I have ever listened. But I have caught most of them and enjoy them.

You've got to stop giving props to that @2 For The Brew guy, though. His mostly-gray head is too big already.

I’ll remember this on the next one.

But look out. You know I’m an EROP (Equal Roast Opportunity Podcaster)

I am back again.... OH MY GOD, the Gospel was being spoken when you got to the Donovan/JBB parts. I have been thinking for weeks that the guy Donovan would ideally emulate was JIMMY BUTLER.

And JBB definitely needs to delegate.

I'm here to eat all the crow.

I heard Buckley's Hallelujah so many times, I got sick of it. I didn't bother listening to his original stuff. Part of this is because in the 90s people supporting him around me didn't give Cohen credit for writing it, and because he looked punchable on the cover of Grace.

It's really really good. Thanks, Jig.

Love that people are digging Buckley. Like I said, that was the first one I heard and it was good but the originals…

To your latter point…that might explain why I took to him so quickly. If there’s anything I hear the most, it’s that I have a punchable face.

Just Waits’ll you hear my next album.
