I wouldn't trade Mobley straight up for Luka. In two years, he's had a vastly greater impact on WINNING than Doncic has made in 5 seasons.

I wouldn't trade him straight up either, but I just can't diminish Luka that easily. His team made the WCF just last season and he didn't have near the talent of Mitchell, Garland, or Allen around him.

Let's let Mobley get a playoff win and series win as the best player before we get too far ahead of ourselves. However, that time is QUICKLY coming.

Admittedly though, Luka is still the one that got away for me. By all accounts he should be and was destined to be a Cavalier. The fit was just too perfect. The NBA is a wacky league. It will be interesting to see if our paths ever cross.

Mobley is looking muscular lately. I think he can add more to his frame than people think. Dude out there looking like a body builder and his shoulders are getting wider and adjusting to his muscle growth. I think he can grow like Giannis and Duncan and add more to his weight and frame instead of being skinny forever like Garnett and Bosh.

I think he can look like Bryant Reeves.

Great post. I'm not sure he's working harder or putting in more time in the gym than other guys, but I think he's almost certainly working smarter. As you said, his understanding of the game is off the charts. He probably knows exactly what he wants to do on the court, exactly how he needs to get better, and focused on those things.

This paragraph reminds me of something Bill Simmons wrote about LeBron when Bron was in his prime (probably around 2012 or so). He said that Bron was the one queen on the chessboard of basketball. The one piece that can move pretty much anywhere and do anything.

I think we’ll be saying the same things about Mobley. When he gets a couple of more levels of confidence in his interior game, and when he develops a reasonably reliable three-point shot … good luck, rest of the NBA.

I'd be curious to know how much film work they/he does. But I think a lot of it is just brains - his noggin is just processing everything he sees very quickly.

He’s a coach’s son! We see a lot of sort of ordinarily physically talented PGs who are coach’s kids, but a phenomenally physically gifted big man who is also a coach’s son is going to hit different

The coach’s kid thing is def real.

I think some combination of being raised by/around a coach who has a big impact on one’s game, having high EQ, exceptional physical gifts, being uber competitive, and high spatial awareness makes a pretty good bball superstar stew.

Very predictable! Those situations grow on trees!

Time for a thread title change from (should be considered for) to (should be).

Adding to what you both said, having an older brother who plays at a high level adds to his potential. He spent all his life being coached up and being pushed daily.
Very similar to what will happen Bryce James.

Big difference between lacking strength and being soft. Mobley even as a rookie never played soft. He was always seeking contact, even if that meant he would just bounce off them. Now that he's a bit stronger we're starting to see him shine. Just wait until he gets strong enough, starts initiating contact and guys go flying.

The Slim Duncan nickname seems to fit better all the time. Kind of an introverted guy, but very heady, very economical movements, and very sound fundamentally. Not as big, but probably more athletic.

To be fair the "coach's kid" can go one of two ways. You could turn out with an entitled prick. Even worse they might think the world is flat. Without knowing anything about the Mobleys I had this concern. Luckily it seems like his family did a good job and Mobley doesn't exude entitlement or fake humbleness.

I was particularly concerned because Mobley was known as being quiet and intelligent which could be signs of being an entitled prick. But I am happy to have been wrong.
