Mobley has a .148 ws/48. Not quite all star and being a big, I will doc some points. But he is closer to around .160 the last 50 games. Mobley was limited early in the season by a injury and then worked through the development.

There was a stretch last night against the Hawks where he was involved in what felt like five straight stops including a block and deflection of an alley oop. (Late third quarter run I believe) I think what impressed me most was how driving guards are completely shut off from easy baskets in the paint. and seem afraid to go finish deep in the paint causing a kick-out or difficult contested mid-range attempt. This doesn't really show on the stat sheet but, makes a huge impact. The guy is legit everywhere on the court. Also, very frustrating not seeing him touch the ball late in the game. 10-13 20 points 15 rebs 6 ASSISTS and 4 blocks! Incredible numbers. Ball needs to be in his hand!

The Ringer just dropped a new article on Ev

He took Capela off the dribble last night starting at the 3 PT line, worked himself into the paint, and then knocked in a turn-around hook on the opposite side of his initial drive.

At the beginning of the season when Mobley was attempting plays like this I thought, "Oh that's cute. Our unicorn is trying to add some guard skills to his game. Not needed but I guess any improvement there is a positive offensively."

Now he's doing shit like this regularly with intent and with the patience of a veteran.

Wild.

Has Mobley been our best player in 2023? I think the answer might be yes.

Even if he hasn't been the best, he has been the most consistent. It's incredible.

I will say, he does not quite have the timing down for help as a center. When Jarrett is behind him he can help on everything. The Hawks were able to take advantage of his help, especially when Okongwu was in the game because he is such a good finisher with good hands.

Okongwu was getting some calls Evan wasn't nobody can figure that out, but they were exploiting Mobley's instinct to help on penetration and that is why Okongwu had such a good game. He can really finish through contact. Strong guy with good touch.

Man, if they had Okongwu, that would be a situation where I would trade Allen.

Mobley has been more consistent down the stretch than Garland and his impact defensively has been huge with Allen out. His stats there are remarkable.

Mitchell has been excellent offensively but Mobley's overall game is equally important to winning. Stats support that but I also give Mitchell an extra edge because I do think his play style and confidence is important to this team's success overall due to loosening up the rest of the team. Call them intangibles. idc...I think they're important with an inexperienced post-season team. Garland has been a questionable closer as of late so Mitchell has really shouldered a lot of responsibility this year.

Just remember, Mobley is 21 with drive. That means he is going to get much better. Stronger, better shooting, better dribbling....60.5 true shooting, and just wait till the 3's start to drop, he learns the Euro step even better, he gets much stronger.

Yeah, Mobley is going to fuckign wreck this league in 4-5 years.

Usually top 3 picks like Mobley don't have the benefit of learning to play winning team basketball in the NBA in their early seasons. They're on bad teams and just given a green light to go dribble and shoot. To some extent it's hurt him in that I think some of his offensive skills might be a little further along, but in the big picture he's learning to play the game the right way. He lets the game and how the defense reacts dictate his actions. He's a good playmaker as a result and backs it up with the ability to finish and a growing bag of moves and counters. He doesn't really take bad shots. He makes a big impact on the boards and defense. I think over the short term this is going to make his offensive skill development a bit slower than his peers, but his development into playing a winning brand of basketball is going to pay off. And, unlike most of his comparable draft peers, he's going to get some playoff experience in his sophomore season. Mobley is going to go into the this offseason with a new understanding of what the peak looks like and what it takes to win playoff series. I'm thrilled for his future.

I dont think playing on a winning team has hurt Evan at all because on both ends he plays a winning style of basketball.

It has hurt his numbers because on a bad team Evan is a 20 point scorer, and thus would be getting even more recognition.

But make no mistake, Evan is a big part of why we are winning, so there is the chicken and egg issue saying if he was on a lesser team. He is probably our 2nd best all around player now, and that isnt a dig on Garland, just how good Mobley really is.

They were asking Mobley his favorite song on JJ Redick’s podcast and he said, “Headsprung” by LL Cool J.

Thought that was super random.
