It took LeBron a few years to figure it out, but elite athletic ability translates extremely well to the defensive end if you are willing to make the effort to use it there. The fact that he is willing to do that from day 1 speaks very well of what he can be.

Even though he has just three total blocks, Allen ranks third in the NBA -- and second on the team behind rookie Evan Mobley -- in contested shots. He’s got 52 of them. Mobley, by the way, already has 72.

Four games, 72 contested shots. OMG.

The Cavs have two of the top three shot contesters in the NBA. Of course, part of that could be because the guards get blown by so much.

twin towers lurking behind ineffective midget guards is indeed the optimal scenario for contesting shots LOL

I think with Mobley it’s more than that though, he roams all over the court he doesn’t just stay waiting in the paint

I was digging through some defensive stats last night post game and the Cavs are dead last in PTS surrendered in the paint. Which seems bad......

But our team defensive rating numbers are vastly improved to start the year and our 3PT % (34.4%) and opponent EFG (52.4%) are already down significantly.

So either 1 of 2 things are happening.....

1. We are overplaying on the perimeter to funnel guys to our bigs.
2. Our guards stink, are getting beat regularly but it works defensively because of Mobley & Allen.

I think it is more of #2 :chuckle:

I think what's got me so hyped about Mobley's play so far is that it's all so project able moving forward. This isn't like he just got hot in a few games with his jumper in an unsustainable way. He's consistently doing all of the things that directly translate to winning and his IQ on both ends is so beyond what rookies demonstrate. There's no reason to expect his defense or passing instincts to take a step back, and he should continue to progress with his offensive game.

Do we have a name for Mobley yet?

I like Stretch Armstrong or Mr. Fantastic from Fantastic 4 ( Mobley's # is also 4 so it fits)

EDIT :

I also like Mobley. D Luffy from One Piece

It’s only been a week or so but DAMN!!! What’s a pick for the Cavs!!!

Very good start to his career. One thing he can really improve on is his post up game and confidence going strong to the basket. I think it will come over the next few years. Still huge room for growth on the offensive end. We still need to get more shooting around the bigs, but that will have to likely wait until next offseason.

One of the issues with his post up game is lack of strength. His post up game will take time.
