Even though he has just three total blocks, Allen ranks third in the NBA -- and second on the team behind rookie Evan Mobley -- in contested shots. He’s got 52 of them. Mobley, by the way, already has 72.

Four games, 72 contested shots. OMG.

The Cavs have two of the top three shot contesters in the NBA. Of course, part of that could be because the guards get blown by so much.

The defense is designed to funnel players into the shot blockers. They get out to contest 3 point shots and use the rim protectors when they get blown by. Our guards and sf actually need to do better about the contest at the 3 point line, but as you guys can see in just 4 games they have improved that incredibly. We will see if it keeps up or like last year the team stops with their good habits.

One thing to note is how good our bigs are at not fouling when they do contest shots at the rim. That is amazing for both Allen and Mobley.

Jasmyn Wimbish at cbssports.com isn’t too impressed. She ranked Evan 4th among rookies in the weekly rankings. It’s obvious from her article that she’s looking at the offensive side only as she didn’t have one comment about his defense.

That kind of approach drives a lot of people’s thinking which will hurt Mobley for RoY. Doesn’t matter in the end as I’d rather have him anyway.

Was this list only compiled with offense in mind? They don't even mention his defense at all?? Not saying he has to be first, but 4th on the list?

Looks completely ranked on Points per game....

When you dig a little deeper regarding the bio of the writer of the article:

“Jasmyn Wimbish has been closely following the NBA since Dirk Nowitzki hit his sweet signature jumper to send the Miami Heat packing in 2011.”

:chuckle:

How would you build around a core of Allen and Mobley as the star? I'm not high on Ben Simmons because he can't shoot, but do think he'd fit on this team with Mo/Fro?

If you have absolute snipers at the 2 and 3 and Simmons is the PG. Switch everything.

No. You would have Allen's man and Simmons' man never leave the paint. The offense would have to be all perimeter shots.

He just reminds me so much of KG as a rookie in ‘95… I vividly remember wanting to see the high school kid play (tho I was Team-Stackhouse for the rookies that year)….

I know Mobley is not going to evolve into a KG just because KG’s game was predicated on his emotion and personality and Mobley is not that way…

However KG was actually a pretty shy kid that rookie season and his game and overall basketball IQ really was highlighted for such a young player…. I see that in Mobley…

I don't respect children that young, sorry Toots.

Nothing about his first 4 games makes me feel any different about his game. I still see a combo of Bosh and AD. His defense is better than I thought, so maybe more AD defensively than i originally thought...but that is his skill set to me.

I hope he hits the weights like KG for sure though.

What I hope to see is that he is someone like Hakeem Olajuwon. Not in the style of his game, but as someone that is always committed to adding and perfecting a new skill that makes him more deadly by the year. That is how all the NBA greats became NBA greats.
