Of course they would. In a heartbeat. Better fit, better player now, and more room to grow.
Wait, do people really believe this?

Wow.

They literally have the Rookie of the Year and they'd trade him "in a heartbeat"?

I love Mobley and I think he has more raw basketball talent (and a LOT of work to do), but Barnes has a legit Giannis-level motor, and that's something you just can't learn. You either have it or you don't. I love watching him play.

Right Barnes got that dog in him. That I'm out here to prove something every night easy to fight, scrap to win, so whatever it takes, take your heart out. I wanted him last year, but was told his offense was too bad. I'm happy with Mobley but I really like Barnes

Margins were really thin but Barnes played 5 more games and had a touch better advanced metrics.

Both were very deserving of the award.

Mobley
VORP: 1.5
W/S: 5.2
W/S 48: .107
BPM: 0.6

Barnes
VORP: 1.9
W/S: 6.6
W/S 48: .122
BPM: 0.9

He's not the better player now. In time we will see. He's got a huge advantage with his ceiling being 7 feet tall, but these guys are neck and neck and work ethic is what will separate them.
He’s clearly the better player now. He has been and always will be a better more impactful overall player than Barnes. Barnes is a really good player though. But Mobley is generational.

But Mobley had the advantage in RPM, and I believe in most of the on/off and especially the advanced defensive stuff.

Mobley is already hard at work this summer on his game. I can’t believe he’s in his first full offseason as a professional athlete and has already busted out the super oversized DuRag before they’ve even crowned an NBA champion.

The league is in trouble next year. DuRag Mobley is NOT playing around.

He’s emoloying a shooting coach, and has been given a Cavs strength and conditioning coach and a skills development coach to basically spend the summer with him. Plus I’m sure Gilbert sprung for a 1000 pack of Du-Rags.

So excited for next season already lol.

Hopefully within a month he’s put on 37lbs of muscle….

This sweet bastard is about to be the next Giannis

Yeah, the Raptors would make that trade in a heartbeat. A Giannis-level motor means a lot less when you're not 7-feet tall with an insane wing span. That's why his brother Thanasis, who has the same motor, is third-string.

Barnes is an awful shooter outside of 10 feet. He's very fortunate that Siakam has a solid midrange shot from 10-16, is respectable enough from range, and that both of the Raptors guards can shoot. Even with all of that, if the Raptors ever get a center who does more than set a screen on the perimeter, things are going to get awfully clunky for them and tougher for Barnes.

If Barnes doesn't develop a shot, and he could, he's going to be Aaron Gordon in a few years. He had the most NBA ready body between the two of them, but even with that, he only won a very close ROY with a couple of voters leaving Mobley out of the top-3 altogether (people who should have their privileges revoked). Barnes will likely third behind both Mobley and Cade a couple years from now.

Spelling it DuRag seemed weird, especially with the capitalizing the R.

Turns out that is a perfectly acceptable way to spell it, just probably never seen it spelled out.

Barnes' advanced stats as a rookie were better than the best year of Gordon's entire career.
On a team that's tailor made for him and had a straight garbage bench for most of the year. There's a reason the Raptors traded a first for Thad friggin Young. IIRC, their starters played more MPG than any team in the NBA.

Eventually, a player who is 6'9" is either going to have to learn how to shoot outside of 10 feet, or you're going to have to build the team around his strengths and limitations. I'd have real questions about where a team built around Barnes' current limitations tops out at. It's getting harder and harder to get by in the NBA without a real center as the Raptors discovered against Embiid. They also foul too much without a true rim protector as they constantly try to deny the drive by reaching.

Barnes' numbers were better per 36 as well, so it's not a question of volume.

Barnes' already is a better passer than Gordon has ever been, which opens up offensive options Gordon never had.

Saying "he may be Aaron Gordon in a few years" when he's already better is just unfair. And if he never develops his shot further...he'll be in the same general boat as would Mobley if his shot doesn't develop further. And both will be better than Aaron Gordon.
