With his proclivities, I am sure Bauer has read some manga and watched some Trigun or Dragon Ball Z in his past. /s
I think Bauer is a very intelligent individual who does some very unintelligent things. My armchair view is he is somewhere on the spectrum and in his mind he thinks "the guys will love it!" instead of "yeah, this could be culturally insensitive and/or offensive. I should probably run it past a few guys first to get their opinions". He could have watched Mr. Baseball a couple of times on his flight over for pointers.
The BayStars press release that the US media and Tom Hamilton can't be bothered with
Before yesterday's game, the club had a discussion with Yasuaki Yamasaki about the staging presentation by the club regarding Trevor Bauer's Sword Celebration performance.
The club explained to Yasuaki Yamasaki that the direction and communication were purely intended to share joy with the fans.
The club also discussed with Trevor Bauer, after his arrival in Japan and before his appearance in a minor league game, to see if there were any problems with his Sword Celebration performance - as Trevor Bauer did not want to do anything inappropriate to Japanese culture. The club supported the idea and considered it as an action that would please the fans.
We are very sorry that some foreign media cut out some of Yasuaki Yamasaki's words on twitter and misled the public.
YOKOHAMA DeNA BAYSTAR
********************************
The actual translation of the original tweet by Yamasaki (the BayStar closer)
“The team official shouldn’t instigate. Idiots. No respect. There are other ways to do it.”
*********************************
Kind of interesting how Bauer is nowhere in his tweet. He called out the team officials. He called them out for the video they put together for the scoreboard of Bauer's sword thing, not Bauer and the sword thing itself. But of course the stateside media miss-translated (probably purposely) or purposely changed the nature of the tweet to suit their purposes. And the US media and Hamilton couldn't be bothered to try and come up with an accurate story because the one that was made up suited their purposes so much better they just blindly followed along.
*********************************
Yamasaki's clarifying statement on the whole thing
"My message was received by the media in the US in a way that I did not intend, and it was taken as if I was saying something bad about him.
After talking with Bauer, I was able to convey my feelings clearly. Bauer is an important teammate with whom I aim to win the championship."

But trying to print the actual story or go on air and give an accurate representation is just too counter-productive to the narrative that they want to spin. So why bother. And that is exactly what they have done.
Not that anyone here gives a crap. But at least now you have access to the other side of the narrative
