Ex Indians update

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you wanted to turn this argument of yours into something productive, how about comparing K% of the prospect you're looking at to that of his peers?

As strikeouts have gone up across baseball, wouldn't it make sense for the strikeout rates of prospects to be up as well? So, comparing someone to numbers of the past seems less-than-ideal. I'm sure there was some stat out there that baseball players above a certain height couldn't be effective... because as time has gone on, our average height has increased. Ignoring the conditions that a statistic exists within is usually not productive.

I've brought up how things like Z-Contact% and O-Contact% would be better than K%. They're much stronger indicators of a hitter's ability to connect with the baseball when they swing. I've brought up how K% have increased in modern baseball. Yet you refuse to look into the ways you could make your argument better.

Don't forget who @CATS44 grew up watching! Ty Cobb was running the bases! He grew up in an era that contact was the most important thing...

"This is going to be the best thing that has ever happened to me."

"...but everyone I talked to was like ‘This is a good opportunity for you. It’s not about friendships. It’s a good opportunity for your career.'"- Nolan Jones.

Like many of us here, he came to realize quickly what an excellent spot/opportunity Colorado presented.

A player like Jones would have to love playing in Colorado since his style of hitting always does well there...

Bad Karma for the G’s…

Nolan Jones with a walk off HR today for the Rockies. Happy for him, upset we never gave him a chance here.

We had too many RF and 1B. It just wasn't going to work.

Q: Why did we get rid of Yandy Diaz?

A: He didn't fit the organizations expectations.

Q: Aren't his stats are good?

A: On the surface, but his advanced stats suck.

Q: Aren't their teams winning?

A: They won't in the long run. We have won more games in the past years than most teams.

Q: Don't we stink at hitting?

A: Yeah, but we can't afford good free agents as a small market team.

Q: Didn't we get rid of our potentially good hitters?

A: Yeah, but there were too many at the same position?

Q: Can't they play a different position?

A: You just can't put somebody at a different position.

Q: What if they hit really well?

A: They won't for long.

Q: Why?

A: Their BABIP is too high.

Q: Isn't that when we extend people?

A: Yeah. We have to, it's a small market team.

Q: But what if they don't hit anymore?

A: They field well.

Q: But what if we end up with a team that field well but doesn't hit well.

A: They are fast. They can steal bases. With these new base size and pitch clock, they will steal a ton of bases.

Q: Don't you have to hit to get on base?

A: With the new shift rules, they will be hitting all day.

Q: Oh. I'm sorry. Excuse me. I was concerned in the direction they were heading.

A: No big deal. You just haven't put in the time to understand advanced metrics, minor leagues, small-market salary, and the delicate balance between Moneyball and old school coaching. Would you like me to help you understand?

Q: No, I think I understand? I've read the forum for a long time.

A: So you understand why players come and go now?

Q: Sure, but why did we let Nolan Jones go . . .

Rinse and Repeat.

We did not. Naylor was our only solid option at 1B, and OGon was our only RF with a sprinkling of Brennan.

In 200 plus at bats between AAA and the Rockies Jones has 16 HR and hes been hitting .333 plus all season. Front office did him dirty, so hopefully they regret this for a long time. He was a top prospect for a long time and we only gave him 86 MLB at bats. 86 damn at bats for a young, big and powerful slugger. He got on base a lot more in those 86 at bats than guys like Mercado, Zimmer and some vets who are currently on the team. Pretty sure his HR hes hitting at home this season are going out of every ball park.

Nolan is/was defensively homeless, and a lefthanded bat that smells platoony.

We have/had way too many lefthanded hitters... A righthanded Nolan Jones is probably a Cleveland Guardian right now.

Don’t go and look at his vs LHP OPS production this year between AAA and the MLB. Over 1.000 in 60 at bats to this point.

I really hope Brito turns out to be a good MLB player because it hurts watching your former top prospect have a ton of success doing something your team desperately needs, hit for power.

It's been awhile since I really dove on Jones, but you raise a good point. Looks like his platoon concerns have eroded somewhat, 2019 was his last year with clear red flags.

I was shocked when I saw his OPS production vs lefties this year. You don’t see lefties doing that very often, even with the small amount of at bats.

to be sure, we traded him a month before we dropped 34 mil on bell - but we do get a couple extra walks v lefties

Not a Yandy lover, but what advanced stats suck for him?

He has a 2.0 WAR so far, 164 wRC+, .321 BABIP, 15.6% K rate (under league average of about 22%), 12.0% BB rate (higher than 8.2% league average)... His hard hit % is in the 98th percentile in MLB, average exit velocity in the 99th percentile, xBA in the 98th percentile... not quite sure where you think advanced stats aren't loving him.
