Don't all the players love Tito?
Any idea if they are working towards extending Clevinger? He and Bieber seem like the next logical targets.
Usually this team target a players arbitration years then adds a year or two into free agency, so that would be next offseason for Clev (arbitration eligible in 2020), while for Bieber that would be the 2021 time frame (arbitration eligible in 2022). At least that is what it seems like from the Cleveland brass when they do extensions. So Clev is due for a contract extension during this season/next off season. Now it doesn't mean they will come to an agreement, but honestly I think the FO probably wants to get it done before he hits arbitration.
This is Clevinger's last year before he hits arbitration. Brantley, Kluber, Carrasco, and Ramirez were all extended before their final pre-arb season or a week into the season. I may be mistaken, but I think Kipnis was extended a year earlier in his service time than the rest of those guys.
Meaning, technically, they are "behind" in extending Clevinger, in regards to their past extensions. They likely lose leverage, from a team friendly extension perspective, should Clevinger reach arbitration. I imagine he would make $4-5m in arbitration.
I really didn't see any rumors for Clev and I know they like to get a deal done before arbitration, but maybe they want to see if he can repeat last season before they extend him or they are waiting for Bauer/Kluber (or someone else) to be off the books next off season. Maybe tag Bimbo (since I am not sure if he sees my tags or not), and see if he has any knowledge about this situation. I do though believe most of us would agree getting a couple extra years out of Clev, especially the way he has been, would be a smart idea.
