Game #25 | Lakers @ Cavs | Dec. 6, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
JA is being listed as questionable but the big one is Windler out again...

Garland has averaged 19 ppg on 51% TS the last 6 games, during which we’re just 3-3. He’s also a -5.2 per game during that span.

It would be nice if our nearly $40 million/year player could give us more than that tonight. I love DG, but he has not played at anywhere near that contract value this season so far. Lately it seems like the same story every game where he’ll rack up a decent number of assists in the 1st quarter and then shoot terribly the rest of the game while seemingly giving low energy on both ends too.

Cedi should start at the 3.
Last ten games, he's part of the best 5-man lineups with 10+ minutes played per game.

Including:
Garland - Mitchell - Cedi - Mobley - Allen (120 offensive rating, 79 defensive rating)

Spacing with the starters is key. Stevens doesn't provide that because defenses don't respect his three point shot and won't rotate to him like they do with Cedi.
Fifth option Cedi shouldn't be too out of control and he can generate some transition points.

Cedi is part of the truly absurd net rating lineups with 10+ minutes of sample size (last 10 games).

-Garland - Okoro - LeVert - Cedi - Mobley. In 19 minutes, 148 offensive rating, 74 defensive rating.

-Garland - Okoro - Cedi - Wade - Allen. In 11 minutes, 183 offensive rating, 65 defensive rating.

First positive lineup Stevens has been with is a 7 minute lineup which also features Cedi.

Lamar with the starters (DG, Mitchell, Mobley, Allen) has been 'okay'/not absurdly bad in 63 minutes played, but it's been a negative (111 offensive rating, 117 defensive rating). Doesn't make sense to start Lamar in place of Wade. I don't think defenses are going to change their strategy with how they guard Stevens any time soon, which makes it tougher on everyone. With that said... The starting unit with Stevens could improve their defense and all of these are limited sample size but... Yeah...

Would rather just start Cedi at the moment.

Some of you already are saying the sky is falling because of AD - but the Cavs are 5 point favorites right now.

Lakers have been the underdogs in virtually all their games lately as they’ve been winning. Betters don’t seem to believe in them yet, but if not for a tough game winner by Indiana, they’d be 9-1 in their last 10 games (one loss being against Phoenix on the road), including a big road win against Milwaukee. With a healthy LeBron and Davis playing like the best player in the league at the moment, I wouldn’t underestimate them. Especially because it’s unlikely JA will be able to give us that much his first game back.

I can't add much to Wham's assessment. We need Allen and if he plays, he'll probably be subpar. We played really well against them in LA. AD is on a tear. Lebron can get 3s all day. If he's hitting them, I don't think we have much of a chance, unless we match him 3 for 3.

If Allen comes back, I give us a 50-50 chance of winning and I think I"m being optimistic. If he doesn't we're probably at 20%. They need to have a bad game.

Intense D will keep this game close. They turn the ball over and we can feed off that. Just don't turn it over like we did with the Knicks.

With Allen: 131-127 Cavs. Without, 139-121 LA.

Less concerned with this one. I would of course love to see the Cavs win it. But as was said earlier, the uncertainty of JA being part of the game, one less wing to throw at LeBron on defense and the general last few games of both teams does not bode well. I'd be less mad with this L than others if it goes down.

Would like to see better offense from the Cavs on this one.

I think Allen and Wade are more important to this team than their numbers indicate.

This is one of those games where everybody will have to play well for the Cavs to have a chance, including Cedi and Love on 3's. The Lakers are playing as well as any team in the league right now (but it's basically two players).

Mitchell had 33 points on just 17 shots in LA. He went to the line 13 times as they could not stop him without fouling. He's coming off a miserable game against the Knicks and I think he'll be looking to bounce back in a big way.

The Wade, Osman, and Love group off the bench was +13, +19, and +22 in the first game. Wade is out so we need Cedi, Love, and Stevens or Okoro to be on their games.

When LeVert is guarded by Beverley, Westbrook, or Reaves he needs to take them to the rim and get the layup or assist. They are either too small, too old, or too show to keep him out of the paint.
