Game 56| Cavs @ Rockets| Feb. 26, 2009| 8:00PM [ET]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Guess playing Z on scola and not on Yao backfired. I think thats the only reason we were behind all game. Coach Brown lookin too far ahead, and it got us tripped up.

Here's how Windhorst saw it, but he doesn't address the glaring defensive issues here:

• The Rockets are numbers people, led by general manager Daryl Morey, who went to Highland High School in Medina and then to M.I.T. Here's something I am sure Morey knew before the game as did his coaches and some players: In his career, LeBron was 40-of-114 shooting in the Toyota Center. In fact, the Rockets probably know that he shoots badly on the wing on the road and have plenty of data to back it up. So they especially made to leave him open out there. He has never shot well here. In his best game, the only time the Cavs won in his six seasons, he went 14-of-34. Not good.

So the Rockets game plan was to stay off him and let him shoot and guard everyone else. They felt the percentages were on their side. So they went under pick-and-rolls and in general, backed off. It was a percentage gamble and it worked perfectly. Also on defense, the had Luis Scola guard Zydrunas Ilgauskas so Yao could just stand in the paint and forget about Wallace or Andy Varejao. Sounds simple and with proper planning, it is. Cavs fell into the trap and didn't do much about it and had their worst offensive game of the season. LeBron could not take advantage of collapsing or double teams to get assists and the whole look seemed to unsettle him. Not every team has Yao, so it is unique, but not challenging him defensively is pretty much unacceptable, no?

Good game Cleveland, good luck with the rest of your season.

The tone was set early..the Cavs came out shooting long jumpers and didn't try to work the ball into the post..Scola on Z should have provided the Cavs witrh a good mismatch..they never took advantage of it.
On defense MB should have rotated players on Yao..it was a ugly game with few adjustments on the Cavs part.

Please Foxs Sports when there's a game on TNT WOULDA TELECAST the game on your alternate channe???
If I have to listen to Reggie's Millers broke voice and Marv Albert's boring bantering...I'm gonna throw something at my screen...

At this stage of his career Z is dreadful in the low post. He either travels, turns the ball over, or throws up some awkward shot. The Cav's don't have any effective big man to score in the post, besides LeBron and he doesn't post up as much as I'd like. I hope JJ gets a chance, because I think he can further develop this part of his game. The Cav's always look ugly when they play a team with a dominant big man.

ugly game but im starting to have a man crush on Reggie Miller....not to be confused with my bromance with Kevin Durant.

I love Kevin Durant he's a G and a Baller! But seriously, he was a one and done at Texas, how can he have his jersey retired already? They didn't win the Big 12 and they didn't do anything in the tournament. Im just saying the jersey retiremnet seems premature.

I’m worried about the Cavs.
1) LeBron has to make a decision. Either he stops settling for jumpers altogether or he has to start asserting himself. LeBron is a really good shooter with his feet planted shooting a set shot (no elevation). I remember him taking and making that shot at an alarming rate with Team USA. That’s his shot. He shouldn’t even think about shooting a 3 unless it’s off a dish.
2) The Cavs offense is so STAGNANT! When James is not his usual-self (creating for everybody), it’s quite pathetical. Run some sets, Mike.

Big Game James coming through tonight!

Mo is gonna backup the talk.

Panicky Stanley shouldn't have run his mouth. He just added fuel to the fire!

CAVS BABY!
