The Pistons are in last place with a 17-40 record; 10-16 at home. They were off yesterday after losing 121-100 in Washington Saturday. The Wizards scored 74 points in the paint.
These teams played twice this season with the Cavs winning game #2 in double OT and then winning again on Jan. 27 by 15 with Drummond at center. They haven't seen each other in nearly three months. The Cavs have changed a lot since then, the Pistons not so much.
The Pistons are pretty injury depleted right now. Corey Joseph is sick. Mason Plumlee and Jeremi Grant will be "rested". That's three starters out including their top scorer and best player in Grant (22.4 ppg). Wayne Ellington is also out along with a couple bench players. So in terms of healthy starters they have Josh Jackson (13.4 ppg) and Saddiq Bey (11.3). PG Frank Jackson, a second year player, scored 19 off the bench against the Wizards.
In the last game against the Cavs Jeremi Grant had 26 points, Ellington had 17, Plumlee 15, and the departed Derrick Rose 13. Delon Wright had 11. None of them will be on the floor tonight. The Pistons leading scorer from that game who will play tonight is Bey who had 7 points.
I don't know what to say about a 17-40 team that is resting two healthy starters other than they certainly appear to be tanking. Grant played 30 minutes two nights ago so he's not injured. They had a day off yesterday. He's 27 years old. Nothing wrong with Plumlee either. The only thing I can think is they don't want to take a chance on not losing to the Cavs.
