Game Thread | 2020-21 Season | Game $70 | Celtics @ Cavs | May 12, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh well, we had 2nd best odds in the Zion Sweepstakes and still picked 5th. Just have to hope we get lucky or do our due diligence in scouting.

It’s not about the odds of getting a top pick, it’s fact that if for example you are the 3rd seed, the lowest you can pick is 7th. But yeah end of the day wtv hopefully we luck out
right I get it, I just never thought the Cavs were going to be worse than 4th anyway myself where worst case is falling to 8 but the odds 4 teams not in the top 4 move into it pushing the Cavs that much seems small. I would not be surprised if ORL wins one of the last two against Philly who will be resting starters likely. The Cavs do need to lose the rest of the games though

I don’t understand why people don’t get this. This game was meaningless. The Cavs weren’t about to make the playoffs etc. just lose and get the best odds for the lottery. This organization is a fucking joke.

The Cavs picking 8th is what it deserves.

the other organizations are all going through the same thing.

MIN won 6 of their last 10 and drastically increased the odds they will give their pick to GS

Orlando has won three out of the last ten

Detroit two of ten

And none of these teams have any guarantees at all. Even HOU only has a 52% of picking in the top 4

The time for all these fans include ours to bitch and moan(or celebrate) is after the actual lottery. No one knows what lotto slots will move into the top4 and which slots will push down,

Yes by winning we possibly take our floor down a notch. We also may slide right into one of the slots that move into the top4.

And we already had 7-8 guys injured and out tonight. You think any NBA team in that situation is gonna sit another 2-3 guys and only play with a 6 man rotation?

They don’t deserve any more than any other team in the lotto. There is no ‘deserve’, there is only chance.

Any of the games Detroit, Orlando, and MInnesota won were also essentially meaningless games too. And they all won more games in the last ten then the Cavs. So perhaps they deserve 8th by your metrics.

I don't know what people want em to do.

Kevin Love has been absolutely awful since coming back. Playing him, so many times, has felt like a tank move.

An NBA player got hot. That happens nightly.

Cavs STILL only scored 102. Below league average.

All the Celtics had to do was not totally and completely suck on offense all night and they still win the game.

Wolves have been rebuilding for like 13 years, they have multiple first overall picks, fair enough they try and win some games. We do not have enough talent, and our best bet is the draft.

The Wolves pick in this draft is only top3 protected. If ever there was an example of a team that truly needed to tank and stay with the worst record or second worst record for the betterment of their long term future, it was the Wolves.

For us, this win MAY slightly increase the odds of us picking 7th or 8th.
For the Wolves, their late season wins have been increasing the odds that they won’t have a pick at all.

What a joke of a franchise. Actually, what a joke of a league. Hate the NBA.

As much as I dislike golden state I have to give props to their GM, I hope we can land deals like that.

The Cavs gave themselves the best chance to lose the game, hats off to the absolute garbage Celtics. They wanted this loss more.

And just to really drive home the point: The Cavs can't force any TOs anymore and tonight was no difference.

Celtics only turned the ball over 7 times and got 13 offensive rebounds. And they scored 94 points. Just abysmal.

TBH, and I hate to be mean, but we did play without our tank commander tonight so it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise

Winning a game like this rather sucks.

Despite optimism about odds, or fatalism, one does prefer to have the best odds.

Past Lotto results are irrelevant. One puts oneself in the best position one can each year. A 65% chance of drafting Top 5 is far more desirable than a 37% chance.

"Draft better!" is a fallacy. If teams could identify every diamond in the rough, the Lotto would be pointless since Draft position wouldn't matter. And with that all the arguments about organizational stability etc. etc. If the Cavs had that, they wouldn't be in their current semi-dumpster fire situation, would they?

It does matter. If it didn't, the Cavs would be looking at a bright shiny future because every player is as good as Luka, or Zion.

==========

That said, I am not sure how much worse the Cavs could have played short of literally benching healthy players. The Celtics fucking stank up the joint. Good Lord.

I just hope we luck out this year, because I don't want to see these last three games as part of that "What If" thread in S34 as the Cavs enter the 6th year of their rebuild because they don't have any stars.
