Eh, I mean they need a back-up point guard and shooting above all else.

Kevin Love+Markennen is a problem. THey're the same player in many respects with the same weaknesses eating up nearly 50 million of cap space.

So that causes a big bind on the roster construction.

But you might not be able to actually upgrade Kevin Love and it'll just be a ride it out year and the summer after is where we make our move.

Getting rid of Markkanen wont be hard. Contract is cheap considering his production and he has gotten better on defense. Basically Cavs got Markkanen cheap because he was supposed to be worse defender than he currently is.

How does Love only play 10 minutes when he’s our most experienced playoff player next to rondo. Just didn’t make sense to me
He's going to get attacked every single possession by Trae. We probably should have played him a few more minutes, but I get why he wasn't playing, especially when Trae started cooking.

Why don't we ever attack Trae young? the key to dealing with him is to make him defend. The hawks did what we should have done, which is to identify the weak link on defense, in this case Lauri, and attack him. You can't let Trae come down and hit threes then hide on the other end.
Because we spent so much time with Rondo and Okoro in the game Trae Young could have hid on anyone of them.

He couldn’t have hid on Steven’s. Would have gotten taken to the rim and murdered. Even Cedi could have attacked him.

The only way to attack Young was to have Okoro attack him off the ball and to do that we needed a post presence to get looks like Evan.

1. Trae Young hit 4 30-footers in the 2nd half. That's 12 points right there in a 6 point game. There's nothing you can do about those shots.

2. With that said, what was our offense in the second half? Give enough time, any NBA team can adjust to your same ole pick and roll over and over again. No creativity. No movement. Same ole turnovers right out of timeouts. Too much reliance on Rondo for some reason. Too much wasting like 15 seconds doing nothing.

3. Refs really killed the momentum a few times. Shame on them.

4. This really might be a blessing in disguise. Good learning experience for the team, the sting of losing. The pick should hopefully help a lot. This team really needs more shooters. Hope this is also an opportunity for the front office to review JBB's coaching, but I doubt anything will happen.
Quoting because I agree with all of this, saving me from typing my version of the same thing.

He'd have taken most of those shots directly from Markennen as he broke off the play and missed the wide open kick out.

I saw Colin Sexton for three season go get points. It led to the worst team in basketball over those 3 seasons.
With a dogshit supporting cast with him as the only efficient, reliable scorer on the roster. But yeah, apples to apples.

Trae was shooting from 35 ft so don’t feel it mattered defensively but offensively Love would’ve made way more of a impact than Allen

What. The. Fuck.

AND they didn't have Capella???

I know like..Markennen was playing with the required effort all night AND was making huge shots.

Yea, he can't hang with Trae Young. It's why I thought switching the whole night wouldn't work out in the long run. Because he's not Giannis or Durant. Trae Young is plenty good enough to start cooking him 1on1. ANd, eventually, he did.

But Trae Young is great and Markennen should never be expected to guard him in space.

But that's the personnel we have and I thought, honestly, JBB made a good choice running that defense. It worked for the most part. And Markennen competed.
I caught the first half on a plane coming back to Cleveland, missed the 3rd quarter driving home, caught the much of the 4th to the end. I thought there were times when we were switching needlessly and guys should have stuck on their man more, so our bigs were getting stuck on more mismatches than necessary. I thought LeVert was as good an option as we had available to guard Trae but not out to 30 feet. But Lauri played so damn well I have a hard time with anyone trashing him for one bad pass or some defensive mismatches, that was a garbage take by the other poster.

I’ve hated him all season. I have no objectivity when it comes to Lori.
Fair enough explanation I guess. Irrational hate for the guy who is a 7 foot three point shooter, he's a seasoned veteran who is 25 years old, and he shows up in big games. Nothing there to like.

Yes, I was puzzled by that too.
