Game Thread | 2021-22 Season | Game #8 | Cavs @ Hornets | Nov. 1, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's a vet that does a better job of running an offense. Our other guards are still young pups in comparison.
Rubio was better at running an offense at 16 years old than our young pups are now

Cavs closed the game despite a furious 4th quarter onslaught by the Hornets and some bad officiating. That Ball 3-point play was ridiculous. Worst call I've ever seen.

If the Cavs lost this game it would have been on free throw shooting. They missed 12! The other big problem was offensive rebounds. The Hornets had 21, which is crazy. It seemed like they were getting two or three shots almost every time down.

The Hornets scored 123 the first game and 110 tonight. Big improvement by the Cavs' defense. Held them to 41.2% from the field after 52% in the first game.

Allen had a monster game with 24 pts, 16 boards, and 3 blocks.

Ball had 30 points, going 5-for-8 on 3's. He kept them in the game. The Cavs did a number on Bridges, holding him to 4-for-18 after he dropped 30 on them the first game.

The Cavs had 38 free throw attempts to 15 for the Hornets. It's tough to win when the opponent gets 23 more free throws. Yes, the Cavs are not good 3-point shooters, but they get to the line. They just need to do better at knocking them down.

Dunno. What I know is that i'm concerned about the SF position and the PG position. Rubio is winning them games, and Rubio will most likely not stay on this team past this year. So getting wins and picking late in the draft just to sink back into total mediocrity and getting stuck in no man's land with Mobley the only one true real game changing prospect is a scary position to be in.

Allen is young and here long term.

And the league seems to really value Garland. If the opportunity presents itself and the FO has the stones they can make him the centerpiece of a deal.

Now, if he doesn't show some improvement by the time the deadline rolls around who knows what his value will be.

But you have Mobley and Allen going forward. If the Cavs don't overplay their hand and are willing to take some risk by trading some of the dudes they might actually believe in, we can land another big time talent, I believe.

My eyes are honestly on Boston. Again, it's hard as hell to swing a trade due to Love having another year on his deal. Much, much easier when his deal is expiring.

But let's say Boston sucks ass for the rest of the year and we come at them with basically the kitchen sinks other than Mobley for Jaylen Brown. They can pick any two of our young guys and get next year's pick unprotected and potentially more.

He's a young player. I'm absolutely ok with swinging a deal like that for player who fits both the roster and the timeline.

PG position is not a concern of mine. You split them up and see what they can do. They don’t work together, don’t mean they can’t work on this team.

I'm concerned about the PG, SG and SF. Lauri might be able to manage the SF though, but both Garland and Sexton are pretty trash at guarding either position. And if we use Okoro at SG, he's going to need to be able to shoot. I'd almost be fine getting a taller 2 guard who can shoot. How my standards have fallen.

I have had faith in Garland. But he keeps reverting back to rookie Garland. It's troubling and discouraging. My stance on him is starting to shift. I need to see much more soon.

Some stats: We ended up closing the gap in offensive boards. Sexton actually had 4, which surprised me.

Held the Hornets to 8+ points below their season average. So another solid defensive showing.

Shooting has to improve. Garland and Sexton can't keep passing up on open 3s.
If they are making 18% of their 3s, I’m ok with them passing up 3s.

I like where your head is at!

Garland, Windler, and Love for Jaylen Brown.

Done and done!

That’s fine. It’s 8 games into the season. My stance hasn’t shifted on any player this early on. The Cavs are 4-4. I’m waiting until game 41. Half way through the season is good enough sample size.

I’m still on the DG bandwagon. Now if he doesn’t start to put it together more halfway through the season than I’ll start to panic until then I think he’s fine. He showed glimpses. Dude just had 18/11.

Split up the little guards and see what they can do.

True.

I'll still be on the bandwagon. Give him more time.

He was insanely tired at the end. He should not be playing the most minutes on the team. JBB can't start the season with a 7 man rotation. It's just incredibly dumb. Hopefully when Okoro returns maybe he'll trust someone enough to give Mobley a fucking break and have Lauri at the 4 for a minute.

Yeah he can't play these minutes. It says something though. He is impacting the game a lot as a rook

Can’t imagine what this thread would be liked had the Cavs gone 0-5 on the road trip as most of us expected. They are far from perfect, but they are winning some games, and it’s a hell
Of a lot more enjoyable than the last few years.

windler needs to get burn, only complaint about Mobley thus far is he is pretty weak with ball, he should be playing about 32-35m.

Yeah people complaining are wild. Lamelo is a superstar and the team withstood a superstar going nuclear and they withstood it. This team is pretty good. Need reps.

exactly. Really fun to see them winning but dare I ask…do we want wins?
