Game Thread | 2022-23 Season | Game #3 | Wizards @ Cavs | Oct. 23, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mobley and Okoro may have been working intensely on their offensive games every day over the summer but I'm not seeing it. They look exactly the same as last year. Okoro's 3-point shot doesn't come close - he bangs it off the side of the rim. The shot is off line and the distance is also off. He also has a tendency to step on the sideline.

Mobley has a long way to go with his footwork, ball security, and shooting touch around the rim. He needs to make power moves and less finesse.

Okoro now has 4 points in 59 minutes on 2-for-10 from the field. He has the same number of turnovers as points and more fouls (7) than points. The rest of his line; 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 0 assists.

Same player. It's discouraging because he's worked extremely hard.

Saw alot of things I did not like and was disappointed in some of the things LeVert, Mobley, and even JA did at times, but we won. Going to give them time to work through it and get DG back and up to speed. One thing I did like is that JBB gave Wade minutes over Okoro and Cedi is playing his ass off.

And we got ourselves the next best thing there is to LeBron not named Giannis or KD.

In regards to the bigs not being very involved in the offense, I think that will get much better once DG comes back and guys get more used to playing together. There are a bunch of open rolls and pocket passes that aren't being converted right now- Caris and Donovan can both pass pretty well, but they're looking to score whenever they get downhill on the pick. Once we get DG back and the offense starts to flow, the ball should find both of them much more.

I just hope Mobley didn't sprain that ankle again; both he and Allen don't look quite in NBA game shape yet, with Mobley being farther away, and any ankle sprain just delays that even more.
Piggybacking on your statement, thought Levert has done a better job at using his bigs in the paint after getting his shot block by OG, late in Toronto.

In the span of several preseason games and three regular season games we’ve gone from Allen being cooked to Mobley regressing, and Mitchell being a slightly better version of Sexton to now not worth giving up Lauri for? Am I understanding this all correctly?

Mobley was 12/18 from the floor in his first two games. If anything was the issue, it was lack of reps and lack of easy buckets due to spacing and no Garland. Then tonight he struggled, yes.

But this talk of regression or not improving is certainly just insanely premature and not true. He was great against the Bulls offensively even in 25 minutes.

I think a few things will be true about Mobley this year. 1. I think he will be better than he was last year and 2. We may not see an improvement in statistical output as a result. Simply because of two things. 1. Less spacing in the front court with Markannen gone and 2. He’s simply the third option most nights and some nights fourth or even lower depending on who has the hot hand. Though I think Garland will get him a lot of easy buckets he hasn’t been getting yet this year.

My biggest worry, and it’s not even a worry…it’s a LUXURY… is Mobley simply not getting the touches he got last year. Same with Allen. We are a much more guard focused attack and that’s okay. That’s the roster. Even LeVert is a higher USG guy than Markannen was and will potentially cause Frobley to take back seats defensively. Coaching has got to prioritize these guys, NOT just with post touches, but with elbow touches, creating, and getting them open shots and space to operate

Kawhi Leonard went years and years honing his game and getting better but mostly controlling games defensively on the Spurs before eventually the Spurs older guys retired and it became his team.

Mobley may average 14-15 and 8 again this year and it doesn’t mean he’s not improving. As long as he’s playing the game the right way most nights which I haven’t seen any indication of not being the case.

Mobley has been solid from the FT line early which is encouraging. I want him taking more catch and shoot opportunities, and I want us more important dialing them up.

But anyone hoping for him to explode to a 20PPG guy this year—it’s not in the cards most likely but it’s 90% due to the talent around him.

If it was just him, Garland and shooters I actually think he could probably average 18-19 and 8 or whatever but we wouldn’t have the chance to be special that we currently have

I don’t think Mobley is going to be as superhuman as people here expect. His frame is an issue and his skills have a long long way to go. I think it’s very possible Lauri + Ochai + 2 unprotected picks + 2 pick swaps turns out to be better than just Mobley. Guess we’ll see who’s right in a few years.

In the NBA, you try to combine tallent to have top end tallent, its why starts cost so much. Some players put up empty stats on bad teams, some seem to out play their stats.

Lauri was the hardest thing we gave up, and I like him, but Mobley's defense alone is rare, and while his offense develops, he will be much more valuable that Lauri, ochai and filler

Only one complaint about Mobley…..has he gained any weight? I swear that boy has the toughest time posting up or backing people down!

How dare you speak of Lauri Legend like this.
