Game Thread | Game #31 | Mavericks @ Cavs | Dec. 17, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Memphis lost a similar game last night, to an OKC team that was resting most of their starters. Weird league.
Yeah, and Memphis recently beat Milwaukee by 41. Every time the Cavs play a team that is missing multiple starters I expect them to lose. It's the combination of overconfidence versus bench guys who are excited to get extended minutes and advance their careers that is a killer.

The Cavs hung on by their fingernails but got the W.

Okoro had 10 points and six rebounds in the first half. I don't know why he got the JYD chain - maybe they're trying to build his confidence.

I loved the Mobley corner 3 for the second game in a row - both in clutch time. And Mitchell, realizing his 3-point shot was off, smartly attacked the rim, getting layups and drawing fouls.

I Just don't think there is evidence of overconfidence in a lot of these games lately.

THey can't shoot the ball. That's not generally how overconfidence shows up.

The offense has been slipping recently, but the defense hasn't. Even last night, the defense was mostly fantastic.

And then the floor game: We didn't turn the ball over at all. We didn't give up offensive rebounds. So the effort and focus was there.

We can't shoot the ball.

The stupid chain thing is literally a participation for Okoro at this point.

They give it to him if he has even a mildly productive game. No matter what anyone else does, if Okoro doesn't totally suck in over 20 minutes of game action, he gets the chain.

Just hilarious :chuckle::chuckle:
You really, really want that chain, don't you?

Only I can say I would love to have Kemba on our team, not Brazilian.Guy has tons of energy and willingness to push to the basket and just considering his salary I would pick him up any time of the day.He almost pulled the W for starless Mavs last night. For Cavs, yes we won,but I dont like the way they are playing with weak teams. Its not first time snd not even the second.Good effort at the end,but stop taking it easy every time, respect your opponent and play them the way you would play top teams.

Okoro for JBB is like that useless annoying secretary married boss sleep with every day.Doesn’t matter how good the other employees are she is the one who usually gets employee of the month.

It was embarrassing that Garland couldn’t keep a 32 year old Kemba in front of him all night.

So JB gives his pet the junkyard dog chain who had the second worst +/-, did not hit a single 3, and played 26 minutes.

Meanwhile, DG is putting up 18 points, 12 assists, 0 turnovers, the highest +/-, and played the most minutes.

Okoro is going to play a part in ending JB's job here and it's going to be glorious.

Isn't the chain more about doing the dirty work? Okoro stepped into the starting lineup, scored in double digits, and had a key block in the 4th. I know he and JBB are the board's whipping posts but it seems reasonable to give him the chain.

If scoring 10 points on 11 shots against backups impresses you then we have different definitions of reasonable.

I don't see where I called it impressive. Just don't think it's necessarily a stat based award plus it's more of a fun locker room thing anyway. Okoro stepped into a role he hadn't been playing whereas DG certainly played well, but he performed more toward the higher level we all expect of him at this point.

On Nov. 1 we led the league in 3-point percentage. On Dec. 1 we were 3rd. Now we're 12th. Dropping like a stone. Not sure why. Maybe opponents took note and starting defending us more aggressively on the perimeter. But we're still missing tons of uncontested looks.

By April this should loop back and we will be fine

Osman was again shooting above his head early in the season, which he tends to do.

But his drop isn't the big reason.

The big reason is 1) Kevin Love isn't having 5-6 3s games anymore and Caris Levert has regressed to his typical shooting. He was shooting over 40% to start the season. He's not that good of a 3 point shooter and he's come way back down to earth.
