Game Thread | Game #38 | Bulls @ Cavs | Jan. 2, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
LMFAOOOOOOO
Just read that the Cavs were drug tested today by the league!!! Priceless! :)
71 points isn't normal. Probably the whole team is taking something. (kidding)

I think he takes bad shots because he feels like that's the best look he'll get for that possession.

I think you're right. But that's exactly the problem.

I've been binging this Cavs coverage all day. I think somethings wrong with me lol. We just witnessed history from one of our stars in our arena. This is a big deal to me. I love my team.

Neto and Lopez, of course. But Lopez is ok to have around, because he's a funny dude.

Neto is fantastic for a near vet min 3rd/4th PG to be honest, I realize I have been hard on him at times too, but thats because he should only play when Darius or Mitchell arent available, but when Rubio is back, I see very little need hopefully.

I will say Windler is useless at this point, and Isaiah, isnt an NBA player yet, but we all have our opinions.

- JA moved his pivot foot for that putback to make the game 128-127

- Mitchell committed lane violation on FT putback

Only incorrect non-calls in the final two minutes. Interesting that they don't mention any lane violation for the Chicago defenders.

NBA rulebook on Lane Violations:

During a free throw attempt for a common foul, each of the spaces nearest the end- line must be occupied by an opponent of the free throw shooter. Teammates of the free throw shooter must occupy the next adjacent spaces on each. Only one of the third spaces may be occupied by an opponent of the free throw shooter. It is not mandatory that either of the third spaces be occupied by an opponent but may not be occupied by a teammate. If there is a discrepancy, teammates of the free throw shooter will occupy the spaces first. Players occupying lane spaces may not extend themselves over their lane spaces in front of an opponent or be touching the lane line or floor inside the line when the ball is released by the shooter. They may not vacate their lane space more than 3’ from the lane line before the ball is released. Players not occupying lane spaces must remain on the court behind the three point line above the free throw line extended and may not be touching the line or floor inside the line when the ball is released.

Sorry, I just disagree on that because the issue shouldn't be just about getting him going. It should be about trying to get the other guys on the team going as well, and getting the bunch of them to play the right way. I have watched too many games where there is a player (Mitchell isn't alone in this) who starts taking bad, contested shots early in the shot clock, and early in the game. And after a bit of that, the inevitable reaction of the other guys - deliberate or not - is to stop moving the way they should offensively.

If we go into the playoff where our only reliable bit of offense is "give the ball to Mitchell and let him make something happen", we won't get very far. Because believe it or not, he's not going to go for 71 points on 65% shooting every game.

It didn't work for Allen Iverson and the Knicks, and it won't work for Mitchell and the Cavs.
Just who do you think Mitchell should have deferred to last night? He did have 11 assists, you know. Who could have been more reliable last night?

I didn't say last night. I'd made a comment in a completely different game thread weeks ago, and someone decided to bring it up in this thread.

I was only referring to the 8 other players who were available to play. And we know Windler is never available to play. To recap, letsgocavs said JBB should have used 14 other players and have given some of Mitchell's minutes to them. I pointed out there are only 13 other players, 5 of whom were injured, and 2 of the remaining are bad. So yeah, of course DM is gonna get huge minutes in a close game, especially when he ASKS the coach to keep him in.

There are lane violations on every foul shot - only the most egregious get called. The refs have to watch the five players lined up at the lane plus the guys at the 3-point line for violations. Nobody is watching the shooter.

Earlier in the game the Bulls got called for lane violations twice on missed free throws by Mitchell. I think one was called on a guy for going over the 3-point line before the shot was released.

Also, they rarely call traveling. I didn't notice Allen traveled in real time or on the replay - it wasn't blatant. I was pissed that he took the shot with the Cavs down by three points, 9 seconds left, and Love wide open and begging for the ball at the 3-point line.

They are drinking the same koolaide.. teamwork and defense can win..

DM was also on fire and didnt have a game the next day and didnt show signs of slowing down. Agreed 100% with you, JBB is by no means perfect, but people are way to hard on him. He has had to negotiate a ton of injuries and trying to get 2 all star backcourt to learn to play together. They are both willing passers, but the tendency is my turn your turn, both have to learn to play off eachother and that takes more than just 20 games.

Hey, Windler has scored 200 more points in his career than Mitchell scored last night.

I thought this was a joke, but holy shit, in 2 years he has scored 271 points.
