Game Thread | Game #45 | Pelicans @ Cavs | Jan. 16, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs are a team I would never feel comfortable betting on to blow out an opponent.

They’ve only had two 20+ point (blowout) wins...They usually play down to opponents or play close games with better teams.
Agree with this. They play down to bad opponents and play their best against the better teams. My impression is they struggle to win games they should.

Donovan Mitchell says it's time for the Cavs to take off. They've had half a season to work on Garland and Mitchell playing effectively together. Okoro is coming on and Wade should be back soon. Rubio is working his way back. I can't wait to see this team with Rubio and Wade up to speed and Okoro continuing to play at his current level.

There are two major tasks in front of them; winning on the road and closing out games where they have a lead in the second half. For whatever reason they have a hard time extending a lead. They were up by 14 against Minnesota in the 3rd quarter but then gave most of it away and only led by 3 going into the 4th.

A blowout (or even just extending a lead) is about that huge surge of energy when an opponent makes a run. Making them pay for every mistake in a quick sequence. Hitting several threes and mixing in a couple dunks, to where the opponent is just drained.

Especially if a couple role players get hot and start to make the whole team feel unstoppable.

That’s when you see guys shoulders start to slump and the glazed eyes, yelling at each other and all that.

What it’s NOT about is when a 15 point lead gets cut to double digits and a team is allowed to hover between 8-12 for 15 game minutes. And guys stand around and bitch about fouls, miss Free Throws and make sloppy passes.

They’re just generally really cleanly played games. Cavs don’t play focused enough for long enough to do this that often.

Surprised you don't think of another herb.

I still wish we'd play uptempo more. Not all the time, just opportunistically. Getting some quick, easy buckets in transition is a great way to extend leads and just bury teams . . .

Way off topic and I know weird, but I see the name Herb annd I thought of Herb Score who to me will always be the voice of Indians baseball may he RIP.

Ok, now back to basketball.
I thought about KFC secret recipe.

To each their own.

Let's get this thing right and put teams away when we're supposed to close the door.

Fratello on TV, but for once the game is on the radio, so that's where I'll be paying attention!

That’s the second time that DG has dribbled into the same no-win position
