Game Thread | Game #70 | Cavs @ Hornets | March 12, 2023 | 5:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
+22 in the final 15 minutes of the game.

Not sure if that's impressive or just an indictment of how shitty they played most of the game, but either way As CamReddish/AdrewWigiinsFan #1 likes to say in these threads: ITS a WINE & GOLD WINNER

3 point shooting continues to be worrisome. But I'm feeling good about certain lineups coach is tweaking with.

Small with Mobley at Center will be a jolt. LeVert has to create for it to fully work into greatness. Mitchell and Garland are wonderful spot up guys. Stevens or Okoro, he just has to roll with one, not both.

That style could play into eliminating the opposing team's best on ball defenders and turning them into stationary defenders (for a moment). Adjustments will always follow, but I like this offensive scheme for instances.

Agreed. With the Knicks flailing with their hard schedule, everything seems a little less intense right now. Relatively low chance of catching Philly. And with this schedule, low chance of being caught by the Knicks.

At this point the Nets are starting to worry me with a big road win Against Denver or all teams today and we have two games back to back against them at their house. They’re playing super well running Dinwiddie/Claxton screen rolls with 3 wing shooters at all times and with Bridges able to now score in iso a lot more…they kinda remind me of an improved version of the Atkinson nets just because of all the shooting and wings they have. Royce o neale has been excellent for them and I would trade anything we have besides the big 4 to make him our starting small forward this summer and I know the Cavs went hard at him this deadline but the nets like him and want a decent first for him rightly so. I don’t know if we can acquire him this summer either. Maybe in 2024. He’s my dream fit. Great high volume catch and shoot 3 guy, great defender who can defend bigger guys effectively with his size and strength, and he’s a really amazing rebounder from the perimeter and he’s a really great team player as he learned from Synders system how to 1. Get open and 2. Make quick decisive decisions with the ball to find open guys and perfect the hockey assist. Plus him and Mitchell have a good relationship and are close friends and have great chemistry

I know he is a guy Koby will continue to work on acquiring this summer and beyond if that’s what it takes

Ok now that my RoN drooling is over…

Any road win without one of the big 4 and win other guys fighting nagging injuries is a good win.

Now let’s rest up for a day and blow the Hornets off the floor on Tuesday

We won despite being 7-27 from downtown. Couldn’t hit 3s but we had some key defensive stretches in that 4th and I liked how we got Mobley in the middle. Made our offense much easier.

LeVert has played really well these past 2 games. His defense has been top notch and his shooting is starting to hit. Hope his shooting can continue. Love the LeVert Mobley pair to get Garland/Donovan in spot up shooting.

It wasn't pretty, but it counts as a W. We're now at 43 wins. Ten more wins and I can say I was right in my season victory prediction.

They won 2 quarters and we won 2 quarters. We won the 4th by 14. Very sloppy game by the Hornets with 19 turnovers.

Our bench crunched their bench. They had more starters out.

I mean who worries us more, last week it was Knicks, this week it'll be Nets. Give me whoever just as long the Cavs conquer the 4 seed.

I hate this road & road thing we have going on here. Playing a team twice in their house has to make dropping one of the games more likely than spacing them out (though I have no data lol). Good call though. Those two games against BK might be meaningful.

From a regular season standpoint the Nets

From a playoff matchup standpoint the Knicks.

FWIW, Cavs in 5 regardless. Cavs 4 seed regardless

Donovan deferring in the fourth was perfect. He made timely clutch buckets when the ball found him while drawing attention away from the ball which opened up the floor.

Ricky/DG/Caris ran the offense well during the 4th. Evan put his stamp on the game later as he often does.

The double teams were well executed besides one that I can recall where the big had an open lane and-one.

Good win despite some hot shooting stretches (those damn contested shots went down in bunches) in the third and transition buckets earlier from Charlotte.

Cavs fans made themselves known in the arena. Kudos to all that were there!

Individual stats:

Starters:
Stevens 9-6-0 with a steal and a block in 30 minutes. Not bad.
Garland 28-6-6 with a steal in 38 minutes. Not good shooting, but 10-13 FTs
Mobley 18-9-3 with a steal in 39 minutes. Well done after a slow start. due to 3 quick fouls.
Mitchell 23-3-3 with 2 steals in 33 minutes. For going 0-6 from 3 he shot 10-19 from the field. He really came on in the 4th.
Okoro 5-2-1 with a steal in 28 minutes.

Bench 31-14-5 in 34 minutes
LeVert 15-2-4 with 2 steals in 34 minutes
Lopez 2-5-0 with 2 blocks in 9 minutes. Very decent!
Rubio 11-3-1 in 20 minutes 4-7 fg, he looked more like his old self.
Osman 3-4-0 in 8 minutes. Good job on short minutes.
