Game Thread | Game #71 | Cavs @ Hornets | March 14, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I didn't even mean it as a sub-tweet shot at anybody. I respect everyones right to their opinions, know my own limits in terms of basketball knowledge, and know game nights are high intensity for a variety of reasons. And there are lots of times when criticisms or reality checks are needed/deserved

Still find it funny though that after every single individual loss, even as a the team with the 5th best record in the league while also being I think the 3rd youngest team in the league, the short term, medium term and long term outlooks all become as worst case scenario(excluding health problems) as possible.
That’s what pessimism IS. It’s a negative attribution bias. It’s an attentional bias towards the negative. For negative people like me, losses are more salient than gains. Losses hurt more than wins feel good. I often wonder if decades of sporting disappointment didn’t shape my world-view. If I get my first championship at 14, instead of 44, am I a glass-is-half-full kind of person?

Missed the whole game but the last minute or so when Windler got a bucket. We won, 120-104. That'll do.

I'm glad to see the whole squad get involved.

We won every quarter but the 4th, which was garbage time.

Great floor game tonight: only 8 turnovers to their 19. Points off turnovers 35-6 in favor of us. That was the game. We helped our cause with 8 steals.

We also were lights out from 3. I'll take 46.7% every game.

The bench stepped up when needed the most, Cedi in particular, but the bench had 39 points. LeVert continues to shine when he starts at guard. He was a team high +25 in 27 minutes with a line of 22/4/7 with four steals and a blocked shot. He did everything.

The starting lineup wasn't bad, either, as they were all between +11 and +25. Mobley led in scoring and rebounding with 26 and 6.

The Hornets continued to turn the ball over with 19 more tonight. Cavs outscored them by an insane 35-6 on turnovers.

Good job by everybody except Wade, who bricked all four of his 3's. What is wrong with his shot? He's not this bad.

Rozier and Oubre made some amazing shots but got no help, especially on defense. The Cavs had 98 points after three quarters which allowed Garland and Mobley to rest most or all of the 4th, which is good because we have Philly tomorrow. Darius and Evan only played 28 and 31 minutes.

Brooklyn losing to OKC so it looks like we pick up a game on them.

Knicks trail Portland 23-9 with under four minutes to go in the 1st. Looks like their legs may be tired playing their third game in four days on the west coast. Too early to tell, though, but I'm hopeful.

On my way there now, had to bring home the Thunder first….was a little worried when I saw both Dame and Grant were questionable

On to the individual stats! Everyone played but Diakite and Lopez. No doubt JBB is saving them for Philly.

Starters:
Okoro 3-3-1 with a steal and a block in 35 minutes
Stevens 11-4-1 in 26 minutes
Mobley 26-6-2 with a steal and a block in 31 minutes 10-16 FG. Great game!
LeVert 22-3-7 with 4 steals and a block in 28 minutes. 8-13 FG! 4-5 from 3! Highly productive
Garland 19-3-7 with a steal in 28 minutes Low minutes are good for the back-to-back.

Our starters delivered!

Bench: 39-10-11 in 30 minutes Good job!
Wade 0-0-0 with a block in 19 minutes. Still in a shooting slump, 0-4 from 3.
Osman 24-2-3 in 30 minutes 8-13 FG, 6-10 from 3. I love it!
Rubio 11-5-4 with a block in 21 minutes. I think he's back, although he was 0-2 from 3.
Neto 0-0-3 in 6 minutes
Merrill 0-0-0 in 4 minutes
Windler 2-0-1 with a steal in 4 minutes
I. Mobley 2-1-0 with a block in 4 minutes
Green 0-2-0 in 4 minutes

On to watch the game! I'll get out a beer to celebrate.

Nice to see Randle pick up his 3rd foul in the 1st quarter!

Notes from the first half as I watch the replay.
1st quarter
AC said Darius was the quickest guy on the court. I agree! He went around PJ Washington like he was standing still. Then he beat Thor off the dribble twice. He has 10 quick points.
Oubre started hot. 5-5 Stevens got 5 quick points. Stevens looks really stronger than Oubre. In the 1st LeVert already has 2 steals and Garland 1. Wade despite missing two open 3s affected two shots and blocked a third. LeVert got 3-3 from 3.
The Hornets are a turnover machine! We win the quarter 30-27 despite playing pretty poorly offensively. We were out of sync offensively, especially once Mobley went out. We close the quarter on an 8-0 run.

2nd quarter:
Ragged play by both teams, with fouls and turnovers and missed shots.

Osman's 2nd 3 gave us some momentum. 11 turnovers for the Hornets already. Osman gets hot with 11 points. "JBB has pressed the Osman button tonight" John Michael. Cavs have 38 shots to 23 for the Hornets. LeVert and Osman both drive to the hoop a lot.

Mobley can get his defender in the air almost every time with his pump fake. Mobley looks alive! Backing into the lane for a left-handed hook over Washington.

Oubre commits a dumb foul on Cedi. We're up 15 after the free throws. Then Mobley draws and makes 2 free throws on a full court dribble drive. The next play he gets a turn around jump shot on Richards. Then he gets another bucket on the next possession. The next play he gets fouled again. The Hornets have NO ANSWER to Mobley. A lot of teams are like that.

It's nice to be solidly ahead at the half. 63-48 We're playing well on defense and offense. When we hit 3s, we're hard to beat.

Loved how they let Mobley go to work on offense.
