Hafner will sign four-year, $57 million extension with Indians on Thursday

Travis Hafner is staying in Cleveland for a while. The Indians' designated hitter has come to terms on a four-year, $57 million contract extension that will keep him in Cleveland through 2012.
The deal will be announced Thursday afternoon.
Progress reportedly was made over the All-Star break on a multi-year deal. Negotiations had been tabled in April, but were reopened over the break with the approval of Shapiro and Scott Parker, Hafner's agent with Legacy Sports Group in San Francisco. The two sides negotiated by phone over the break.
Hafner's contract for this year was increased, and his club option for 2008 was picked up and also increased. The last four years of the contract will be for an estimated $48 million, with the breakdown $11 million per season in 2009 and 2010; and $13 million per season in 2011 and 2012.
The Indians have reached agreement with two of their three primary free-agent-to-be targets. Earlier in the year they reached a three-year $33 million extension with right-hander Jake Westbrook. C.C. Sabathia, also represented by Legacy Sports Group, can be a free agent after the 2008 season.
