I'm bothered by our indifference towards Gooden

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gooden has the talent to be an all star. He just has a low basketball IQ and doesn't do all the things he needs to do as a PF.

Looking at Haslem or a different type of PF is all about chemistry. Gooden's game and mentality really doesn't mesh as well with what the Cavs now need from their PF.

I brought up in another thread and it wasn't mentioned here earlier that Gooden is due for a contract extension next year. That is also probably a factor in the Cavs looking elsewhere for a PF and their willingness to move Gooden. He is likely to be looking for a big long term contract and I don't think the new Cavs regime are prepared to commit to him for the long term.

I do like Gooden's talent and he did have some impressive performances last year. There are just too many off nights and his game isn't as great a fit anymore as would be a Haslem type PF.

What about A Mac???

Ill give Gooden respect..he has some good offensive moves, he can be a hustler, but he get's into his zone and he thinks he is Skip to my Lou throwing behind the back passes and that's why I dont trust him with 35+ min a night.

Like Ive been saying, if would accept the role, put him on the bench and he would still get 12-7/8 and be up there for 6thg man of the year and be a big part of this team.

But he has to understand that, and if we can get that through his head, he could be a big important peice to this team.
my bad bro'--- i was talking about antonio mcdyess. and his role in detroit

I agree completely with this post. Everyone is really down on Gooden and he doesn't deserve it. I will be disappointed if we do infact trade him this off season.

I still don't see Haslim and Z taking on the Wallaces, or Shaq@co or Duncan@co. Traylor had the bulk to battle inside. If we are trying to win a championship, drew is a better match (alhtough tyson or Curry woudl be better in this role, but I don't think we can pry them away from Chicago)

And just so we are all clear. Z hasn't signed yet....

Noone is being down on Gooden. We are trying to find the best possible team for Cleveland. This is a team game, not an individual game. You have to have some role players. Just because we suggest trading Drew, does not mean we think he is not good enough. We need a different skill set at power forward. I don't get how you guys cannot see that. Its not all about numbers.

Why not be down on Drew? Basketball is not just about points, and if you take away that offensive "potential" that he has, he would not even sniff a YMCA league. We saw what the frontcourt of Z and Drew did for us last year, it was a defensive nightmare night in and night out. Neither can defend the pick and roll, both have terrible individual defense, it just does not match because both are meant to play with a bruiser. Put Z next to, say a prime Charley Oakley and you have a great mix, but enough about that.

That is why Drew does not play, his defense is so bad I bet Earl Boykins could back him down on the blocks if he wanted to.

I've liked Drew too, but hes simply a better match on the 2nd team than as a starter at this point. Last year, he did take his temp benching pretty well and there were several games that Drew was a crucial factor in. His behind the back passes can drive you crazy, but he did quit chucking up threes. I think it'd be interesting to see what this guy can do with some sort of stability. (Even if we keep him, its still changing coaches and 7 new team mates) If he ends up in a trade, its probably because hes the only person on the roster with any trade value and any salary, basically the only tradable player on the team.

Haslem has drive though, since hes had to work a lot to get where he is sinces hes not some overpaid lottery pick. He hasn't shown the same signs of making some bone-headed plays. The guy can play, and isn't just some Shaq sidekick, his numbers were comparable in his rookie year (without Shaq) to last year.

I'd like the Haslem pickup because it gives us some needed big man depth and adds a quality player to the team, but I don't think that means Drew has to be shipped out, especially if Ferry can magically get Haslem, Z, and Saraunas signed with available cap room.
