Indians Officially Sign Borowski

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Your right...let's save that 6 million...we'll have 36 year old utility infielder money for another 6 seasons.

Let's play it safe..because after all if it doesn't pan out it's going to be much better served in Dolan's Vault..

Should result in many victories..instead of building loyalty with arguably the best Closer I've ever seen in my lifetime for a mere 6 mill..in case he isn't washed up.

Hell it's not like we signed Gil Meche for 55 mill...

Carmona figures to be in Buffalo - truth is there just isn't any room for him in the pen at this point unless something happens (ie either Carmona pitches his way onto the team or someone else is hurt).

Gange needs to be signed, even with a one year deal. Again, if we can get him for 10M with a 2nd or 3rd year team option and we don't do it, I'll put Dolan in the bodybag myself. If we don't get him, I want to see what we offered him.

Great job putting words in my mouth. Just asked how far do you go for a pitcher who has had multiple surgeries and who hasn't pitched but 15 innings in two years.

You gonna answer the question, or just spout off some more?

Insane comment at the end not withstanding, thank you for at least giving an answer.

Unfortunately he wants a one year contract - i wouldn't mind seeing the Indians signing him to an Ordonez type contract, with a lot of riders on it based on appearences (either in games or on the DL).

But ten million? No. Thats about 5 million too much in my opinion.

I would like to pay Gagne 6-7 million to see what he has...

If nothing oh well at least we explored it instead of letting some other team get him and have him do well.

Seems to be our story though we're too cheap to take these types of risks..I doubt he's back..

Fair enough.

Remember the Indains took that type of risk with Kevin Millwood and it paid off nicely.

Millwood's agent? Boras.

The amount of guaranteed money would scare me off if i was Shapiro, you aren't getting the Gagne of two years ago, you are getting the Gagne recovering from major health issues.

But the money seems to be available to spend, and there just isn't anyone else to spend it on that would fit a pressing need. (Any utility infielder who would cost $6 million wouldn't be an utility infielder.)

I still can't make my mind up on this. I would hope the Indians can see Gagne pitch, examine him thoroughly, etc, but i think i read somewhere that Boras isn't going to allow much of that. If true then i definately pass on Gagne. But if i can examine him and he shows he is healthy then i would be more willing to do it.

We seem to sign a washed up infielder or corner outfielder to play a few times a week each season...Jose Hernandez...Cora..Delucci...those seem to be our normal off season moves aside from the occasional contract extension or re-signing.

Not a 6 mill per year UT but 6 UT's over a 6 year period for a mill per year..

You forgot Eduardo Perez....

I think the book is out on the Tribe.. They won't sign anyone of significance because they can't... If they get anybody of a higher status it is due to one of two things.

A. He's older and past his prime

B. He was hurt at some point and wants to sign a 1 year to prove himself, and then sign a larger deal down the road. (Millwood, Gagne ???)

Ahh yess Eduardo Perez..dealt for some minor league catcher that was oh so necessary..

Actually

Perez was dealt to the Mariners for either Cabrera (a middle infielder who actually was necessary) or Choo (a LH hitting Of who may or may not be necessary) - not sure where you are getting the idea that he was dealt for a catcher (although with the lack of true catching prospects in the system a good point could be made that getting Max Ramirez - who the Indians got from Atlanta for Wickman, was a necessary pickup)

And was Cora washed up after he was traded to Boston?

And i do not agree that Dellucci is washed up.

So other than that i agree with your post completely.

I think the book is out on the Tribe.. They won't sign anyone of significance because they can't...

Its been that way for a long time now.

I really didn't pay much attention to details last year..we sucked..if it was 20-1 Tribe with our starter exiting it was pretty much over..much like 2 seasons before it.

Delucci's numbers offensively are spot on with Jason Michaels..and we saw how that acquisition turned out..

You do realize in 2005 the Indians won 93 games? Or maybe you didn't pay much attention to the details that year either?

You keep saying that, and i decided to see how accurate you are (figuring with your track record to date you wouldn't be)

http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/delluda01.shtml

Dellucci's average season: .263/.348/.449

http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/michaja01.shtml

Michaels: .282/.360/.422

not that similar at all....

wanna try again?

Oh I agree.. It not just Dolan..

Hell, other than Robbie, I don't remember Hart and Jacobs signing anybody that was in their prime and ready to contribute..

Winfield, Murray, Finley all come to mind....Granted, they played a role and were decent, but no real splash..

thank god someone finally realizes it....

there is a lot of talk about Hart not making a trade for Pedro Martinez - what most don't realize is Hart didn't make that trade because he knew Jacobs wouldn't sign Martinez long term...

the last big name FA that the Indians were in the running for was Catfish Hunter....

so thats why i have a hard time when people whine about Dolan not spending money - Jacobs wouldn't and the team/city/economy was in much better shape then
