Indians Officially Sign Borowski

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

thank god someone finally realizes it....

there is a lot of talk about Hart not making a trade for Pedro Martinez - what most don't realize is Hart didn't make that trade because he knew Jacobs wouldn't sign Martinez long term...

the last big name FA that the Indians were in the running for was Catfish Hunter....

so thats why i have a hard time when people whine about Dolan not spending money - Jacobs wouldn't and the team/city/economy was in much better shape then
I understand, but you do have to realize the situations are slightly different..

#1. The drafting back then to now is night and day... The Tribe struck it rich in the early 90's in terms of drafting.. They made the solid trade with San Diego... It all just culminated with the new stadium...

It was okay back in the day because the core players were some of the best young players in the game...Several were all stars and becoming great players.. They were the players that the other teams coveted... Other than Sizemore, Sowers and Hafner, you really can't say that's the case here..

So yeah, maybe they didn't spend the money, but in order to retain those guys, it was kinda understandable at the time... To a certain extent..

#2. This is different from the standpoint that the novelty of everything (including the stadium) has worn off.. The drafting hasn't been as stellar, and the future (albeit bright) doesn't look nowhere nearly as bright as the old days.. And the proof was in the pudding.. Those 90's teams were dominant, they got to the Show a couple times, knocked on the door a couple other times, and never really went backwards

This team has no business not spending more, and trying to replicate the old blueprint.. The drafting isn't the same... The core players are not of the same caliber, and there's nothing to really draw them in like the Jacobs Field did back in the day... This team, has to go that extra mile since they have nothing else to fall back on..

And just when this team was close, they regressed... Something the old teams didn't do...

And bottom line, did we ever win a world series by not spending money with the old teams ? No... We came close, but close doesn't count..

I read a piece by Jim Ingraham about how we paid for a left handed Jason Michaels...he showed 3 key stats in which they are identical..

Look it up

Pip - good post, valid points. I still can't see this team spending when the Jacobs era team did not.

cdt - no thanks, suggest you go back and click on the links i provided you instead - i prefer to go by stats instead of Ingrahm. (PS you never did answer my question about the teams record from two years ago.)

I meant 2 years from the last year...It's moreso the season that just happened then it is next season..in my mind anyway.
