BREAKING NEWS: Indians Sign Dellucci(link)

The Indians have found a new left fielder, reaching agreement with free agent David Dellucci on a three-year, $11.5 million contract, FOXSports.com has learned.

The deal is contingent on Dellucci passing a physical. The examination is expected to take place Thursday in Cleveland.

The signing of Dellucci, a left-handed hitter, will enable the Indians to play Shin-Soo Choo in right field and move Casey Blake to first base. Jason Michaels, a right-handed hitter, likely will play left against certain left-handed pitchers.

Dellucci, 33, spent last season as a part-time player after the Rangers traded him to the Phillies on April 1. He performed well in his limited role, however, hitting 13 homers and producing an .899 on-base/slugging percentage in 264 at-bats.

Rangers owner Tom Hicks cited the absence of Dellucci when bemoaned his team's lack of toughness in a radio interview late in the season, saying, "I think we missed David Dellucci. I think that leadership in the clubhouse part is really important, and we didn't have that after he left."

Dellucci, a 10-year veteran, has a career .348 on-base percentage.

**** the Cavs the Indians are going to the ship!!!

I'm so glad Dolan has decided to open up the pocket books..it's been forever since we've had a marquee guy like David ****ing Delucci in C-Town..

I'm amped..

I like this signing if this happened.. He's a solid defensive 2nd baseman, can hit at the top of the order and is versatile.

If we're talking about the same guy, he has never played 2nd base, hes a corner outfielder with a .260 career BA.

That being said, I can't find a single thing to support this.

choo and micheals are better players then this bum.

i remember seeing Dellucci in the minors when i was younger when he came up with the O's. he is a good role player, and he is deffinitly a winner, he is sort of the same kind of player as Eckstein, i think this is a good signing for you guys, its not going to put you in contention, but David is deffinitly the type of player who will have a great club house presence and will also hit very well.

This team is terrible..

GM speak:

"Clearly this is a move that adds another piece of versatile depth to our club. As we move forward, we feel this move puts us in a position to contend and adds depth to our lineup. All the while maintaining a sense of financial flexibility to our payroll in order to acquire another piece or two as we move forward, and piece together a championship contending club"

Owner speak:

"He was cheap"

And guys, I still can't find anything about this. I don't think it happened. I don't see why it really would, why would we need a platoon OF with little power and a mediocre BA when we have Jason Michael's already.

If they are looking for a corner OF guy, I think they'll look for someone with a little more pop in their bat. On top of that, with Crowe tearing it up so far in fall ball, I think we might see him sooner rather than later.

He's actually a platoon infielder.. He mainly played 2B last season but he can play in the outfield as well as 3B and SS.
