Chris Fedor had a good column on Okoro today. The numbers are alarming.

He's shooting 11.4% on shots more than 5 feet from the rim. 11.4%!!!

That may be OK for Jarrett Allen, but for a shooting guard or a small forward that's not close to being acceptable unless he's a first team All-NBA defender who passes like Draymond Green and gets offensive boards like Tristan Thompson.

Okoro is 3-for-27 on 3's and every one was classified as either "wide open" or "open". Teams don't even contest him. Their goal is to force the Cavs to have Okoro shoot a wide open 3.

He's working on his mechanics but he's badly regressed from last season, when he finished strong.

[Okoro averaged] 16.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in May - Fedor

He is a really good mover, he’s a really good runner, he can catch and finish at the rim, he’s a good offensive rebounder. We have to get him to do more of those things. He just needs to impact the game the way he impacts the game. We don’t need him to score 20 points a night. - JBB, 11/22/21

Okoro has a lot of believers.

The kid is going to be really good...His potential is out of this world…If he keeps working, the sky is the limit. - Jimmy Butler, 4/4/21

He has those physical gifts, but once he comes into his own really as a skilled basketball player, he has the tools to do all of that. I think the sky’s the limit for what he can accomplish. - Kevin Love

He’s going to be a wonderful player for a long time in the NBA with the Cavaliers. - Koby Altman

He’s an incredible player and incredibly smart....He only gets better and better each and every day. He’s so exciting to watch grow. - Andre Drummond

I hope they're right, but it's hard to see right now. If he can just get back to where he was last May that would be a great start.
His shooting has been awful. Really, really bad. Fair to say it's hurt his overall confidence. Not so easy to address what to do now. The NBA isn't an easy place to learn anything during the season due to the number of games, travel, injuries etc.

OK, but then who picks up his minutes for the Cavaliers?

8 players that are 100% better on the court right now than Okoro:

Garland, Rubio, Allen, Mobley, Cedi, Lauri, Love, Wade.
Then I'd even say Davis is even better in limited minutes as he's arguably the best rebounder on the team.

So there's a whole 9 man rotation there. Not to mention that JBB often runs just 8 guys. As who starts instead of Okoro? Rubio or Cedi or anyone who gets you better than 10% on wide open 3s.

But only 2, or perhaps 3 of those guys can play the backcourt.

Five on your list plus Davis can’t play guard. Cedi will have trouble matching up against some guards. Garland and Rubio are awesome but we need another 32 mpg from guards beyond them. Unfortunately we have crappy options right now.

Yes, DG, RR and Cedi.

JBB ran 3 man backcourt rotation with Sexland and RR. So replacing Colin with Cedi isn't a huge adjustment. Cedi has at least twice the perimeter skills needed to play SG than Okoro who's a SG sized PF in reality.

They probably go back to Rubio/Garland with Mobley/Laurie/Allen once fully healthy. And once fully healthy, you won't need Okoro to provide much scoring, just keep the ball moving and find 6-8 points opportunistically.

Okoro is going to play though. His confidence shooting is clearly messing with him. But the rotions don't work without someone coming in to spell Garland and Rubio, and your next best option other than Isaac is Valentine, which is to say, no option at all.

Also, Okoro does enough good things on the floor that can help the W/L column that JBB is still going to trust the kid. His leash will get shorter as we get healthy and if he continues to struggle as much as he has been with his jumper.

Cavs MO is to stick with their guys through good or bad by and large. One of the reasons the players like playing for JBB is he has their back. I don't see this changing a ton.

I don't expect Okoro sent to G-league or glued to the bench. I just said that him not playing is good for the team's win %.

Also Okoro reminds me of Kris Dunn ( also drafted #5 ). Dunn even had more perimeter skills and was even a better defender. And Kris didn't have a good career up to date and not listed on any NBA roster right now.

And he also got lip service from other NBA players and of course from the guy who drafted him. It didn't help Dunn one bit.

He needs to start with garland We need either garland or Rubio on the floor at all times. No faith in pangos to play any mins

Not sure what your post supposed to mean. He currently starts with Garland and he gets some minutes with Rubio. And he still sucks major ass. He's a highway toll on your road to success, until he starts converting his open shots.

He's the last person to talk because him and his co-host,who looks like Sloth from the Goonies, were the main ones saying the Cavs should start Okoro at the SG position since last year. Every single time Okoro had a decent game they would say he would be better than Collin even though Okoro can't dribble the ball to save his life..

The fucking gall of this dude...

That's why I don't listen to the Wack Ass Podcast anymore..

I'm surprised the guy rates high enough to qualify for a blue check mark.

It's safe to say Okoro was a bad pick. I never liked it myself. We need to trade for a wing badly.
