All these takes claiming we should have locked up Okoro in the summer. As if we had posters demanding we extend “0k0r0” earlier. Most people wanted him run out of town.

I’ve been a consistent Okoro supporter but I did not see his game improving to this extent this season. He’s over 40% shooting.

Nobody wanted Garland extended after two years. Fair of course, his first two seasons were meh. Then he has an all star season and we extended him. He follows with two rough injury riddled seasons and he’s a bum.

None of us know what will happen in the future, particularly with young players. I know people who have changed radically in their 40s and 50s. Jason Kelce had all six of his seven all nfl teams AFTER he turned 30 because he worked on improving his game after a poor 2016 season.

Ice - maybe he’ll keep improving and maybe this is a career year and he’ll never be as good. We all have opinions but nobody knows. Nobody.

Great post. The same posters who dissed this kid with the 0k0r0 name are now criticizing Cavs management for not extending him last summer. I guarantee it's the same exact posters.

Most people are incapable of seeing anything other than what their eyes show them. They can't imagine anything other than the status quo.

That's not a shot at anyone in particular, that's just how most people are wired - the "I'll believe it when it smacks me in the face and not until then" crowd.

I can probably count on one hand the number of posters who believed Isaac was capable of growing his game to this point. Were we clairvoyant? Just lucky? Probably somewhere in the middle.

I don't know where he goes from here, but I know the work ethic and attitude have always been there and his confidence and skill level are growing. I wouldn't bet against him.

The Okoro haters know who they are and that universe karma will show up in their lives in other avenues to torture those losers for life….

Foresight is 20/20. I guess people are saying if they locked him up over the summer, he'd be a bargain now. Now he is probably going to want more than what he would have taken over the Summer, probably 2-3Xs more. Maybe he would not have taken an extension and he would have bet on himself to improve this year(ala Baker).

Nobody can know how every player is going to work out over time. But it isn't unfair to expect professional FO people to have a good batting average over time in terms of personnel evaluation, which I think our FO has done.

See: Dean Wade, hopefully CPJ.

Would be nice if we could bat 1000 but I also feel like Okoro is more of the kind of guy who will take a hometown discount, or at least not make unreasonable demands. Anywhere else, he wouldn't have gotten the same kind of PT and opportunity.

As long as he isn't represented by AV's agent....

He’s been consistently referred to as one of the hardest workers on the team, he’s improved steadily every year he’s been in the league and you used a very high draft pick to acquire him. Would have been smart to show some faith and lock him up on a reasonable deal at the first opportunity. Now you’re probably going to have pay significantly more or lose the player, that might have been a mistake. Hard to say without knowing, with certainty, what his contract demand was.

The truth is probably that they lost faith in the kid at the worst possible moment and now they will likely be punished for it, hopefully not too bad. There was something that came out last year about how maybe Isaac wasn’t a part of the core moving forward. I’m guessing that was after they started extension talks with his agent? Just a guess lol, he’s probably gonna get what he wanted and then some.

I thought they should have locked him up for 12-13per last offseason. Slightly more than a Cedi deal.

It was reported he was offered 12 and he didn't take it. I was ok with them not giving hi 15, but it might be more than that now

I was admittedly in the "Okoro isn't good and probably never will be camp". I was wrong. One of the things I love about Okoro's improvement is it looked like the team had largely given up on him when they went out and got Strus. But injuries happened, Okoro found himself back getting meaningful minutes, and he took the opportunity and ran with it. Good for him. "Enjoy your very large payday that is now coming and the assurance that you will be in the league for a long time that comes with it."

Through all the drama, through all the winning and losing as Mitchell, Garland and Mobley have been checking in and out with injuries, Okoro has been steadily improving and delivering all while playing great defense.

Over the last ten games he is averaging 12.6 PPG while shooting 45% from 3PT.

I think he is still well below his ceiling.

Okoro's ceiling included further improving his shot where he is comfortable shooting with little space (he is over 40% from 3, dont see or need that to go up)...he will take more shots, and improve his dribble some (will be a weakness overall for him)

He might never be an all star, but Okoro can turn into a solid scoring and shooting SG who is a all defense level defender. And we are watching this happen before our eyes.

I think if his shooting plateaued at his current levels I don't think that's a problem. He's a willing shooter and eventually teams will start staying home if he keeps it up. For me his next step has always been about his dribble drive game. Can he find ways to punish smaller defenders? Can he get to the line a little more? He's starting being more assertive as the season has gone on and I think that's his next layer of growth.
