Where is this guy? He looks bigger and taller in college though..
NBA is just such a big jump from college, guys are way taller stronger. Also he’s playing out of position here.Where is this guy? He looks bigger and taller in college though..
That’s the whole problem.....the kid is going to be a “good” player in a couple of years! But you DO NOT use a top five on a kid that’s going to be in a couple of years! A top five pick needs to be GREAT.....A GAME CHANGER....or FRANCHISE PLAYER now or in a couple of years! Orkoro is not showing any signs of being that kind of player. Again I don’t blame Koby on this pick I blame the team’s scouting department that was been putrid for years now! Because the GM takes his cues from what they are telling him about potential draftees!I dont drink, but im still giving Okoro a couple years before judging him (despite being wholly against picking him in the first place)...

You don't assign the same tiers to every draft, and you definitely don't approach the draft the same way, regardless of your team direction/trajectory. That's foolish and short-sighted.
A very simple rule is to get the best player you can for your draft position. At #5, you want to get the player that's no worse than 5th best in his class. At #12, you want no less than the 12th best, #35 is the 35th best; etc. The nuance of team fit and timeline, etc adds a wrinkle. The Warriors added James Wiseman, instead of LaMelo Ball, not because of *right now*, but because his fit with the team and trajectory of his development would help extend the Warriors championship window and allow him to carry their current stars as they age.
Cavaliers fans have been blessed with guys like Lebron and Kyrie in recent memory providing "instant" impact, failing to realize that most draft picks take time to do so. Fans of most teams get upset their teams don't hit a homerun with every pick and fail to appreciate the triples, doubles and even singles that come out of the drafts. This team has had very little talent, and zero top level talent, since Lebron left the second time. He left the team with nothing of value to acquire top talent via trade. The franchise has *never* been a desired destination for top talent via free agency (even when Lebron was here), so that avenue is out. That only leaves the draft. We've had #8, #5 and #5 since the most recent rebuild. In drafts that haven't been very deep for top talent. Aside from 2-3 guys total in those 3 drafts, who did the Cavaliers truly miss on so far? They've been in "get on base" mode because they haven't had the resources to aim for the fences so far. Okoro is "contact with the ball." He may be a triple, may be a single, may be an out. Hell, he may reach base on an error, but let's wait to see where the ball ends up before jumping off the ledge. Getting a bust in a loaded draft (like 2021 is shaping up to be) would be frustrating. Getting guys that peak as the team is ready to compete, is a really good thing.
Sorry for all the baseball metaphors.
If you build it, they will come.
Double-header.
Rounding 3rd.
Chicks dig the long ball.
LaMelo with Steph would have been just so much fun. LaMelo is not all that different from what the Warriors used to do with Livingston (another tall talented PG who wasn't a great shooter)There's plenty of people that would argue Wiseman was still the wrong move, even when Thompson was healthy at the time. IMO, Warriors are a better team right now had they drafted Ball over Wiseman. They put too much weight on fit, especially when they still had that trade exception they could've used to bring in a serviceable big man that would probably bring more to the table than what Wiseman is offering. Big men always take longer to develop too.
It is kind of weird that the team that led the charge in making the center position obsolete in the modern NBA felt a center would be the best fit for them. This team started Festus Ezeli, Andrew Bogut, Kevon Looney, and Javale McGee during their finals runs.LaMelo with Steph would have been just so much fun. well admittedly Wiseman looks like he'll be a very good shooter eventually. It is kind of weird that the team that led the charge in making the center position obsolete in the modern NBA felt a center would be the best fit for them. When they took Wiseman over LaMelo, they where counting on Klay being healthy. Nobody could've predicted Klay's season ending injury. I'm sure they take LaMelo over Wiseman if they know Klay isn't gonna play the whole year.Yeah, plus it actually would’ve worked out really when Klay returned as he could’ve just been relegated to sniper duty with Ball and Curry as primary ball handlers.
