Isaiah Mobley: 2023 SL MVP

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If he can hit wide open threes and defend at a somewhat passable NBA level he could see minutes. I'm just not convinced he won't get abused by NBA level players. I saw him live against an Arizona team that just had 3 players drafted and he couldn't hang at all in that game. He's team was outmatched, so not a totally fair comparison, but SC was also a top 20 team and lost by 20 something at home.

I hope I'm wrong. I think he has value to Evan and if he can add some basketball value on court we'll be stoked.

To be fair the only reason USC was ranked at all was because of Isaiah Mobley. He either lead USC or was tied for the lead in PPG, APG, RPG, SPG and BPG. I'm not sure Mobley ends up making it in the NBA. But the game plan for beating USC last year was simple. Take Isaiah Mobley out of the game. Koloko did that for U of A. In the NBA especially on this team he will never be the primary focus. If he can defend his offense will be keep the ball moving and hit open threes and get easy lay ups/dunks.

I did say it wasn't a fair comparison. :chuckle:

He'll certainly have a different role going from college centerpiece to backup big.

He's probably a lot better off being a role player as opposed to being the best player on a squad.

Technically best player on the squad is a role. :chuckle:

I LOVE NBA JULY.

We've gone from "He's just a lifting buddy for Evan" to "This guy has the total skills package for a modern big!!" in like two days.

Did I mention I love NBA July?

He is the real superstar on this team and you are lying to yourself if you cannot see that.

I have always thought 2,000 career NBA minutes is a good dividing line for "good 2nd round pick" and "bad 2nd round pick". Plenty of names you just barely remember at the end of the bench logged @2,000 minutes.

I'll take the over for Isaiah Mobley by the end of his NBA career.

The fact remains that the Cavs would not have drafted Isaiah Mobley if his kid bro wasn't here. He wouldn't be in the NBA. IMO that's interesting in itself, as bringing in a less talented sibling of a star player for non-basketball reasons is still a really rare thing to do in the League.

Again. There’s is nothing factual about what you just yourself called a fact.

The Cavs have scouted Isaiah Mobley since before Evan was even in college. They like his skill set. And they wanted an extra big with shooting range and defensive versatility (Isaiah can guard 3-5 depending on matchups at the 3 and 5 at times). They love his character which is a huge thing for this team.

And they went a bought a top 50 pick to secure him when they had a pick at 56 that they could have easily taken him at. The reality is they knew directly from the Mobleys that there were other teams interested in him in the back of the 2nd round to put him on a 2 way contract. So the Cavs jumped to where they needed to in order to draft him.

Evan Mobley getting his big bro as a teammate is a BONUS for the pick, not the core reason. The Cavs love Isaiah’s skill set, physical makeup, and his character and work ethic. That’s why he got drafted.

Isaiah not having the physical ability to play in the NBA is laughable. If Kyle Anderson can play the wing Isaiah Mobley can play as a backup big in the league. Especially after he gets a year or two in an NBA S&C program? He’s going to be even leaner, meaner, stronger, quicker and more explosive than he was as a legitimate #1 option at USC. He has a lot of skills that could translate into being a legitimate NBA player, a lot of similar skills to 2nd rounders in the past. His passing combined with his shooting and nothing else could keep him in the league for a decade.

The entire Cavs war room/draft apparatus did not stand and applaud their selection of Isaiah Mobley because they were patting their backs about getting Evan Mobley a practice buddy.

They legitimately think they found a hidden gem. Privately they’ve thrown around ridiculous comparisons and have had a lot of “what if” private thoughts and internal conversations.

They believe in Isaiah Mobley. That’s a fact.

You could've stopped there. That's all that needs to be said really.

Like him a lot. Mentioned in podcast that he can bring the impact like Grant Williams does. It’s not just a bro. I love his passing and his 3 is already there. More consistency and strength he will develop to be a good one.

With no first rounder next season the Cavz made some shrewd picks with Guys like Mobley , Travers and Diop. Raw Undeveloped talents with upside as role players to compliment the likes of Mobley, Garland , Allen etc. Ease Mobley in this year , Travers next year and then Diop after that. Cavz are positioned to be a force in the East for the next 5 years or so.

I really do think Isaiah mobley is raw and underdeveloped. Both Mobley brothers have had solid coaching all of their lives, IM can pass, shoot, now. I think he needs NBA conditioning program and time at the Charge to play. Having a brother on th e team that can tell him what to expect and do in his first year will be huge. I think a year or two from now we are going to see we got a steal with this pick

Travers and Diop are reaches for sure, but we had no roster room or cash to take USA college players this year

Diop and Travers may have more upside than Agjabi. I see Brobley as a 4th or 5th big which is fine. He is skilled but not nearly like his bro. Then again, it always seems the little brother is better since they have to compete with big bro.

I’m still not a fan of the Diop pick and would’ve preferred Josh Minott there. I liked the Agbaji pick. I’m reserving judgement on the Mobley pick, as it seemed like a nepotism pick, given who was still available. I didn’t know much about Travers, but he flashed yesterday. I hope he can continue to show out and keep developing. Obviously it’s far from a given that he ever comes over, just as it is with Diop, but I’ll be rooting for him.
