Isaiah Mobley: 2023 SL MVP

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With no first rounder next season the Cavz made some shrewd picks with Guys like Mobley , Travers and Diop. Raw Undeveloped talents with upside as role players to compliment the likes of Mobley, Garland , Allen etc. Ease Mobley in this year , Travers next year and then Diop after that. Cavz are positioned to be a force in the East for the next 5 years or so.
Woah, I’d slow your roll a bit. People once spoke glowingly of Cedi Osman as well. We don’t know that we will ever see Diop or Travers in a Cavs uniform. Only time will tell, if they come over, as Osman did, or if they go the way of Milan Macvan or Ejike Ugboaja. I’m pretty sure the hype is going a little overboard for Travers. Let’s just see how he does in the remainder of summer league.

I’m still not a fan of the Diop pick and would’ve preferred Josh Minott there. I liked the Agbaji pick. I’m reserving judgement on the Mobley pick, as it seemed like a nepotism pick, given who was still available. I didn’t know much about Travers, but he flashed yesterday. I hope he can continue to show out and keep developing. Obviously it’s far from a given that he ever comes over, just as it is with Diop, but I’ll be rooting for him.

If you swap Minott for Diop, where does he play? Who gets traded?

DG, Rubio, Neto
Levert, Sexton, Agbaji, Okoro
Lauri, Stevens, Cedi, Windler
Evan, Love, Wade
JA, Lopez

IM and Nembhard as the 2-ways. That's 16 guys on the roster, not including the 2-way or draft-and-stash guys.

Cavs would likely have had to give up a second round pick to move Cedi or Windler if they drafted Minott

They still might have too, Once we sign Sexton, we’re over by 1 spot, this explains the thought process on what they we’re thinking in the second round, had to be a 2way/ Stash player……

Minott is a small forward IMO. My son played against him in high school, where he played a lot of point forward. Osman, Windler, Stevens, & Wade are all very expendable pieces and I’d rather have Minott than any of them.

Not if they’re packaged with a more desirable piece, like LeVert. In fact, that’s the kind of deal I expect we’ll see at some point.

The Cavs could move Osman & Windler if they were willing to take McBuckets contract off the Spurs hands. I’m not sure that’s something they are willing to do however.

Understandably , however what I observed yesterday was a guy that can impact a game the way Anderson Varejo did yrs ago. An energy player that every contender has. Travers can do multiple things despite not having a 3 point shot as of yet but still stuffs the stat sheet. Travers can be a Delly type on the wing , a player other teams despise . Whatever offense he gives down the road is a bonus.

Someone might take Windler with cap space or an exception especially if we throw in his salary with cash consideration. His salary is so low that those size trade exceptions never seem to get used and a team that might have liked him before would see it as a free flyer especially if they are over the cap but below the luxury tax line.

Isaiah not having the physical ability to play in the NBA is laughable. If Kyle Anderson can play the wing Isaiah Mobley can play as a backup big in the league. Especially after he gets a year or two in an NBA S&C program? He’s going to be even leaner, meaner, stronger, quicker and more explosive than he was as a legitimate #1 option at USC. He has a lot of skills that could translate into being a legitimate NBA player, a lot of similar skills to 2nd rounders in the past. His passing combined with his shooting and nothing else could keep him in the league for a decade.

The entire Cavs war room/draft apparatus did not stand and applaud their selection of Isaiah Mobley because they were patting their backs about getting Evan Mobley a practice buddy.

They legitimately think they found a hidden gem. Privately they’ve thrown around ridiculous comparisons and have had a lot of “what if” private thoughts and internal conversations.

They believe in Isaiah Mobley. That’s a fact.

Agree to disagree on this one. Everything you said about the cavs is true wanting him for his skillset, but Isaiah's lack of speed worries me for even backup minutes. We saw with Tacko how important foot speed is in the modern NBA.

But if you ask me if you take a chance on a 6'10 guy who can shoot and pass like Isaiah and the bonus of his brother playing for us? Yes I take that chance with a bought for 1.5 million 2nd round pick 10 out of 10 times.

So gun to my head, will he work out, probably not, but its a 2nd round pick, a later one at that that cost us really nothing. Its no different from the chance we took on Lamar Stephens, and I think Lamar has become a legit back of the bench NBA player so this is how good teams like the Spurs opperate.

Waitaminute... Are you seriously equating Isaiah Mobley's footspeed and general mobility with Tacko Fall?

Stop it. Whew!

I am pointing out foot speed matters. But, Isaiah is 6'10. OK length for a big, but lacks explosiveness and that is going to hurt him imo.

But he can shoot and worth the risk, that is what i am saying. Also his lack of strength will become apparent too, but that part can be worked on, explosiveness cannot.

We will see.

Physically speaking, what does a guy like Draymond have that Isaiah doesn't?

He is incredibly long for his height and has incredible reflexes to go with his all time anticipation. Draymond is a legitimate unicorn when it comes to NBA history

Not to compare him to Draymond—Draymond was the “Dancing Bear” at Michigan State because he had quick feet despite his rotund frame.

But Mobley does have a 7’3 wingspan. That should definitely help offset some mobility issues.
