Jacoby Brissett: Class Act

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm biased.

I liked Mond when scouting QB's coming out in 2021. I had him as the QB6 in that class, ahead of Kyle Trask.

Mond succeeds in wide-open, spread offenses and has really good running ability--very much like the offense we're trying to set up for Watson's return.

I think everyone wants Dobbs to be good. It'd be a cool story if it happened. The representation for your daughter would be awesome.

I just don't think it's going to happen.

I wouldn't bet on Mond either for what it's worth. Odds are they both suck shit.
Man... I don't have an opinion on Mond one way or the other, but I have a friend who is a diehard A&M fan and I'm pretty sure his blood pressure would be through the roof after listening to whatever reasoning you have for preferring Mond. :chuckle:

Brissett was converting on 3rd downs pretty well. He missed some throws that I'm sure he'd like to have back but he threw some strikes to DPJ. And he did a lot of that while getting pressured.

Throw in some other guy and he's probably getting strip sacked and throwing picks against a pretty decent Panthers defense.

I think he can get us 6 wins. And as the other guy said the more troublesome part is the two easy passing TDs we gave up to Baker. We cannot give up those kind of points.

Yeah, but can anyone actually say they wanted Josh Dobbs coming out of school?

My take on Mond coming out was his Junior film looked like a second round qb. His senior film looked like a late day 3 qb.

I bet he's a bad qb. Actually, we know he's a bad qb. Minnesota wouldn't cut a qb they took a year ago if he didn't suck something awful.

But there are still physical tools there.

I think people are overly critical. He missed some passes, he had some drops. He had too many three and outs.

But he threw zero interceptions. He did convert enough third downs to win the game, including a critical game winning drive. Did you miss that? I didn't because I never thought he could or would do it but he did.

I think he could look better week 2 given the experience with the team and the offense that he got in week 1.

He looked better than the preseason, so hopefully with more game reps he’ll look better. It definitely feels like there’s rust that this team needs to shake off.

I was happy to see that we didn’t have any pre-snap penalties that I can recall.

His deep passes look like weak punts. That’s not going to end well when we face a good defense. They better figure something out quick.
There really is not much to figure out. Brisset has a clear limitation and we will need him to continue executing what he can do. Like last season, our run game, receivers, and defense will need to be at their very best for us to compensate for the weaknesses of the QB.

Brisset is good enough to help the Browns beat bad teams, that's all we could hope for until Watson is available.

It’s not difficult. The options are either play a guy with known limitations but been around .500 as a starter for his career, or start Dobbs or Mond who essentially have never played in the NFL. If Watson were out all year, I think there’s a chance we’d try Dobbs or Mond and see if we could catch fire in a bottle for a season.

Also, Carolina actually has a good defense. I would guess if they stay fairly healthy they’ll at least be a top 12 defense. They have quite a bit of good young talent on that side of the ball.

The guy did get run down by a 340 LB DT and he had 2 steps on him. LOL

His ball looked bad. He made no mistakes and that is very positive. I don't think we saw the best of Jacoby and I think he will player better. If he doesn't we will struggle to win 4 of the first 11. I don't think it's all his fault. Our WR room is in the bottom of the nfl--falcons, bears, packers, texans, jags, and titans probably only teams worse.

He was ass. He had a few 3rd down clutch passes but that was it. His pre-snap had me pulling my hair out. I cant count how many times he almost had a delay of game. I rather risk it all with Dobbs. Brissett has no touch on his passes at all. He almost cost of this game if it wasn't for York.

I'm so happy with the first game win but im not happy with him at all.

When you’re quibbling over “almost” delay of game penalties, I’d imagine you’re not going to be happy with him regardless.

He’s not going to be a guy who is able to make every throw. He’s just got to get enough done, and he did today.

He is good enough not to make the horrible Baker foot behind and two feet too high mistake throws. He will also miss a few "he should have thrown" and have a couple 50/50 decisions a game. Hopefully with some practices Cooper and Njoku will be in better flow with Jacoby like DPJ and Bryant seemed to be today.

If we can go 5-5 or preferably 6-4 over the next 10 games and Brissett has a 16/5 TD/I ratio and we stay healthy, we should be in a good position the last six games when Watson comes back.

I think he doesn't anticipate throws as he should with his lack of arm strength. It might be his mentality as a cautious QB. I think as it become more apparent how Stefanski will design the offense around his limitation, the easier it will be to defend him and the offense in general. The field will start to shrink because of the lack of deep throw connecting and even intermediate throws.

Maybe we can grind through games using our RBs and TEs trying to overpower teams but I think Stefanski might have to spread out the load on the RBs and TEs so we don't lose any to injury. I'm not sure how they played today is sustainable. Stefanski will have to be more creative and try to figure out something that Brissett does well enough to give us an advantage.

Kellen Mond is not seeing the field hahahaha
