Giannis could still force his way out of Milwaukee this season.

Giannis just agreed to the biggest five year deal in NBA history. There is zero chance he forces his way out of Milwaukee any time soon. He's locked in there for at least the next three years. You can't force a trade with six years still remaining under contract. You have no leverage.

That would explain the anticipated regression in 2021, but it wouldn't explain why they're predicting a continued decline beyond 2021.
I don't see 538 as infallible, but I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. One that passes the sniff test.

Apparently being a massive bitch, putting on 30 lbs, and making your teammates' lives miserable is sufficient leverage to force their hand.

Does it matter?

Superstars have all the power. If he wants to leave, he will.
Ok but I highly doubt he would sign a 5 year max contract then Immediately demand a trade. And by that logic might as well not sign any superstar considering they might demand a trade.

Maybe because statistically, he projects most closely as Biedrins. Didn't AB flame out pretty quickly as years progressed? I'd say Jarrett Allen's body type, makeup, and skillset are much better than ABs.

Giannis is a totally different human being than most of these egotistical mf's.

He's MUCH more likely to handle things like LeBron than Harden. He will play out his contract and go wherever he wants to if he wants to leave after. He's not exactly going to be that old next time he's on the market. Plus he will give it time to work out with Jrue. More than 1 year. Giannis also loves MIlwaukee and considers it his home in the U.S. He is not leaving anytime soon.

It's long been a complaint of mine that no stats people in the public domain have any idea what they're doing, because the people who do know what they're doing immediately get hired by NBA teams. Unfortunately that goes for 538 too. Their projections are better than nothing, but only barely.

I missed everything.

We are also going to pay shit load for him in the off-season.

Bro.......

No one has or will ever force their way out with FIVE years left on their deal.

@I'mWithDan Do you think Mobley will be able to play the PF spot effectively in the NBA aswell? if so, that opens us up to pick almost anyone in the top 5 considering we locked up that C spot.

I think Allen / Mobley would be an almost dream scenario for the Cavs, relative to where we were prior to this trade.

I think Mobley will be a good enough shooter to make it work and the perimeter skill he has shown off the dribble would allow you to play him kind of like a hybrid 3 on offense. That would let the Cavs aim for a spacer at the 3, who would kind of function more like a 4 on offense.

And defensively, that combination would be devastating. To me, the ideal role for Mobley would be a 4 that splits time on the wing. Having Allen to bang inside would be perfect IMO.

James Harden just forced his way onto the team of his choice with 2+ years left on his deal...

Harden is also a huge selfish jerk. Comparing Harden and Giannis is idiotic. They could not be more different.

plus, that pick will be long conveyed by the time Giannis has 2 years left,
