From The Atlantic:

"Just like the players were turned off by his coaching style, from almost the beginning, Beilein was stunned by the culture of the modern NBA player, at least in Cleveland.

Players missing practices and games for mild soreness, or for no other reason than winning was not the primary goal early in a rebuild. It was something he never got used to. Players failed to retain basic, fundamental information delivered to them by coaches, and their revulsion to lengthy film and practice sessions was foreign to him."

I'm with Beilein on this. NBA players don't have to go to classes, not that college players attend that many. The pros have no other time commitments and they're making tens of millions of dollars in a highly competitive business. You'd think they would be eager to do anything to give them an edge. There's a lot of money at stake, yet they don't want to watch film or practice too much?

It reminds me of reading how LeBron would be out on the floor after practice working on his game while his teammates were checking their cell phones or listening to music. Larry Bird took 200 shots before every game just to make sure his stroke was locked in because he knew he would take the final shot if the game was tied.

I'm disgusted by players who get a scouting report and forget or disregard it, or who set limits on how much practice or film work they're willing to do.

When people say ‘they will never sign to play in Cleveland’ why does that apply to the Cavs way more than the Indians and Browns? Is it the culture of the NBA? The talent distortion of the league as in there are way less good players vs mediocre?

As someone who doesn’t follow Indians or Browns it’s just something I have noticed. Correct me if I am wrong as I know next to nothing about baseball but the Indians are a decent team and sign decent players for a number of years?

Didn't we get 2 2nds from Blazers for Hood who we got for Crowder then used 2 of those 2nds in the KPJ trade?

That’a semi-encouraging. So our current yield from the Kyrie trade is Sexton, Exum, and KPJ? That’s not quite, Doncic, Exum, and KPJ, but it is better than a steaming pile of feces.

In the NFL, exposure is close to equal across franchises, because of the TV contracts.

I think the Indians have the same problems attracting free agents that the Cavs do. More so, because there is no salary cap, and the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers can sign all the free agents they want.

Y’all gotta realize these men are basically divas. Each and everyone of them have been sucked off by everyone they meet since they were at least 15. Some younger. Why do you think there aren’t many superstars that win consistently? Because the mindset to work even after you are paid isn’t a common thing. Plenty players have bodies and physical capabilities to be superstars but they get that first contract and get comfortable. One thing you can say about LeBron is he’s never been ok with how good he is. In year 16 inCleveland dude added a fade-away shot to his skill at. Players don’t do that in year 5 let alone year 16.

I think the lack of parity has caused this. Players are becoming more and more ok with not winning until their 30s. Why try if you know the same 4 teams will win? The days of making whatever team you are drafted to THE team in the NBA are over. Now it’s about which team can name and 2 of my friends go to and make it a contender

Todays NBA requires a former player to coach the spoiled rotten primadonna NBA players of today. The Cavs don't have anyone with the mental faculties to comprehend what Beilein was teaching , no leadership whatsoever, just a team of children

The Indians' FO excels in all the ways that the Cavs and Browns don't...they maintain stability (same executives/head coach) and foster, cultivate and promote a winning environment (if we exclude the playoffs, that is.) Their scouting is excellent, they generally nail trades and they know exactly when to flip veterans for young prospects. It's this business model that has made them a respectable franchise despite competing in a league that punishes small markets more than any other sport because of a lack of a cap.

It's just too bad the fan attendance and, consequently, ownership support isn't isn't there like it is for the two other toxic organizations we have in town. The Indians with Gilbert's pocketbook would probably be a dynasty.

But perhaps more to your question, attracting and signing marquee free agents has never really been their prerogative. Shrewd trading and homegrown talent is more their style.

I think, the Cavs would have won that third matchup, if we had a decent bench.

We at least could have been competitive. We got fuck-all for Kyrie. If we win that first game Lebron doesn't break his hand in frustration after and plays better.

And of course if we had kept Lebron and some good players for an additional year we could have won as the Warriors imploded due to injury.

What in the hell i

what in the hell is kyrie worth? He is a nut job. He is a locker room cancer and he is always hurt. Grateful he hit the shot but glad he is gone. Sexton gets a 20 a game. We got nance and a few others from trades that followed and kyrie is on the IR. Again

"Us players, in some ways -- really, in a lot of ways -- we could have been a lot better," Love said. "Naturally we have a lot of young players on this team. As veterans, we're trying to figure out ways to help young fellas, as well as the coaching staff. When you look at things in their entirety and as an accumulation, that's when you start to see the story. It's really not just one man."

"We gotta do a little check on ourselves too," the 5-time All-Star said. "We gotta look at ourselves in the mirror too. I was talking about passing that mirror test. Definitely myself -- I've been a s--thead at some points this season. I let losing get the best of me and nobody likes to do that.... it's really just looking at ourselves and finding out how we can get better. And from there, trying to put it all together."

NBA players really make it hard to enjoy the NBA. It’s damn near impossible to not know too much in the modern social media era. Unless you’re tuning in for games then immediately tuning out, you’re gonna know too much about these people.

The guy was simply not a good NBA coach, I'm glad he resigned.

She also said the most surprising thing the players were saying is that Beilein was very unorganized. She said the Xmas practice thing on a earlier podcast.

I think the weather of Cleveland in the winter when basketball is played plays a big part in not wanting to come here. The exposure stuff plays into it.

I also think the club/bar and restaurant scene isn't what NBA players want. Exclusive clubs are almost outright rejected by the Cleveland public. Even places that charge covers are hard to get people to go to. NBA players want exclusive places where they aren't disturbed to hang out in. The difference between us and Chicago, is there is a whole bunch of places like that. I didn't understand it until I would go to Chicago and my friends would get us into those places. They are places that get big musical acts especially DJs and get a huge chunk of their business from bottle service.
