Are there any more legitimate reasons for Ime Udoka or Wes Unseld Jr?
Yes. That's the entire point.
Udoka has been an assistant coach in the NBA for six seasons - Hammon for just three. Udoka also played for 4 different teams in the NBA, so he has all that additional experience regarding "what works" in the NBA, how to relate to NBA players, etc.. To the extent you want to put weight on Pop's opinions, Udoka is his second assistant, Hammon is his third.
Wes Unseld Jr.'s resume is even stronger than Udoka's. He spent 13 seasons with the Wizards in player development, including 6 as an assistant coach. He then spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Orlando, one season with GSW, and is in his fourth with the Nuggets. That gives him twenty seasons of NBA coaching/player development experience, compared to Hammon's five.
Yeah, i get it that people might be suspicious of a 'progressive agenda' being pushed here, but look at it this way -- how good does she have to be and how hard does she have to work to make it in such a boys' club?
How about simply working as hard and having as much experience as do male coaching candidates? Nobody is trying to hold her to a higher standard that males -- but asking that her candidacy be held to the same standard as every other candidate is hardly unfair. The whole "boys' club" argument is actually just an attempt to ignore her actual qualifications because of her gender.
Again, with all that being said, it is possible that she would be a great coach. But none of us are in a position to know that. All we really have to go on is the objective evidence, and that is heavily weighted in favor of her not being ready yet.
