Maybe change the title to the next Marc Jackson?
it’s very likely that gained EXPERIENCE from tough first playoff appearances and smart additions made around their core is what made the Warriors take their leap, not a Mark Jackson for Steve Kerr swap.

People are so gullible to believe the whole golden boy/puppet master positive stereotypes that get put on certain coaches.

Even IF a big uptick in the Warriors after Jackson was let go was due to coaching, it was much likely moreso due to assistant Alvin Gentry and Ron Adams.

Many of THE best coaches of the past 30 years had playoff losses(even sweeps) in their first year (or two even) of their appearances with the teams they eventually gained respect with as coaches.

Yet when we lose in this years playoffs(be it first second or third round), all the geniuses will say it’s all because of the coach.

People like east narratives though so have at it.

@Sir'Dom Pointer This is pretty much shown in the record books. It's not really a disputable fact.

Also, good to see you. Hope all is well. Miss you in the game threads

Umm what’s the guarantee the next coach will be any better? There aren’t championship coaches just begging to coach here and going with an unknown while not the worst idea you get it wrong, you set the team back, but if you get it right that’sa game changer.

Agreed, but if Nick Nurse comes knocking, I would take him in a heartbeat.

Great players make great coaches, not the other way around. It’s true in every sport- Pop & Bellicek didn’t become bad coaches, their talent aged out. It’s why the GM is more important than the coach in pro sports. That doesn’t mean that coaches don’t matter, they do. But in the NBA it’s usually more a trust, respect and chemistry issue than X’s and O’s. With these huge staffs of lifelong basketball people, there is plenty of basketball knowledge floating around. The challenge is pulling it all together - GM, coaches, players, all on the same page with a philosophy & style that fits and maximizes the talent.

Looks like Nurse and the Raptors are having a mutual "split". Give the man a blank check and call it a day. He would be a massive upgrade over the idiot we currently have.

man, I wanted Gentry so much in the Cavs organization. The Kings are a better place with him in it. The stuff he did in New Orleans with Jrue and Rondo, man....

And what exactly has Nurse done since Kawhi left?

There is a LOT of talent on that Toronto team and their huge disappointment of a season should be an indictment on him, not a flashing “hire me“ sign.

Hopefully Walton can have an even bigger effect on the offense in year two. But when you actually watch the games, you can see that the Cavs do do some nice action movement with lots of running around screens but it’s just not their ideal offense for this current roster. Koby needs to add another wing shooter or two( or LeVert/Okoro both need to improve even more in their 3P shooting) for that type of beautiful motion offense that Cavs fans clamor for(and knock JBB for not employing enough in their opinion) to actually work and be as or more efficient as the iso and pnr action we run with Mitchell and Garland. But also, when you have guys as elite as passers, dribblers, and shoemakers as those two, that type of simper offense IS often the most efficient offense you can run.

Also Keep in mind that the Cavs did their one week coaching retreat to plan out this years schemes on both sides of the ball in late a
August, thinking their personnel was set and then AFTER that was over, the Mitchell trade happened.

Obviously they were overjoyed with the talent upgrade but that is also a massive game changer pivot in terms of scheme, roles, and responsibilities

But his name isnt JB so he must be an upgrade!!!

P.S. Don't go over to realgm and check their fan's opinions on Nurse. That would certainly not fit the narrative.

Mentioned this in the Garlandthread, also relevant here.
One of the many things fans harp on about JBB is over playing the main guys. Well, TOR has two of the top 4 guys in MPG and a third in the top 20

Cavs have just one guy in the top20, Mitchell who is tied for 14th in minutes played per game

But people rarely check these stats, they just critique in a bubble without looking for the context of league norms

All that said, JBB still has many areas for needed growth, but the criticisms levied against him daily are pretty absurdly over the top imo

I wouldn't. I hear the same problems from Raptors fans about adjustments that I do JBB.

I wanted Quin, but he's gone. Not really any good coaches available right now. I'm not interested in college coaches.
