If you cut him from the team right now or even once Nance is back I’d tend to agree but I think we are also building in expected growth and leaps from the young guys and a replacement backup center signed or traded for to back up Allen when we talk about next year.
Yeah I am just not sure. It would probably take a lot of analysis. I would love an unvarnished take from the coaching staff.
His rebounding can't be replaced. There is simply no one better, and it is not all just the Big Z tip drill. It has a large effect on our defense keeping teams to one shot.
His hands as a defender at his size, just can't be replaced. He is so good stealing the ball. We do have Larry and Okoro as good thieves still, but from his position it is really impressive.
Allen is a good defender, but you can't make up the amount of room that Drummond takes up in the paint while maintaining his mobility. I really think that Embiid would be the only way to replace that.
His passing, is rare.
As much credit as we want to give to Bickerstaff, which I think is warranted, Drummond deserves some props.
Driummond's contributions to raining our floor is pretty real IMO. He absolutely hurts the offense regularly, but I think the defense and his passing on offense are big pluses.
Allen for sure is a good player, and i think most of the time he will be the better answer, but this is I think going to result in the same thing that Larry replacing Love has done for us. It is going to make the team easier to guard not having Drummond.
I hope it is just a small step back, but the way Drummond can just absorb minutes, stay healthy, and take possessions when nobody else has anything going is something that is important to the team right now.
