Wow, thats some BS

I'm glad you're willing to waste time on a shithead TE that is past his prime. I'm also glad that you're not a front office exec.

I'd much rather be talking Mike Jenkins from Dallas than this bunghole. There is a reason that Seattle's late round draft pick is conditional and it is because Winslow is an asshole who doesn't offer as much as he can potentially damage.

Is there any truth to this?

Dallas Cowboys

I wrote Monday about Mike Jenkins staying away from OTAs and assumed he was doing that to make some sort of statement. I was right, as it came out later in the day that he wants to be traded. As Tim MacMahon says, good luck with that, Mike. This isn't like the Asante Samuel situation in Philadelphia, where the Eagles just wanted to dump Samuel's salary and took a seventh-round pick for him. The Cowboys can still use Jenkins, even if he is now the No. 3 corner behind Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. And given his health issues of the past year and where we are on the 2012 calendar (i.e., after the end of the draft), it's impossible to imagine any team offering them enough to make it worth their while to trade him.

In the ongoing quest to say sillier and sillier things about Tony Romo, the latest apparently is that the Cowboys don't go to the Super Bowl because Romo is not enough like Michael Young, which I guess means he needs to get on base more.

It isn't likely, but I'd say it is more feasible than freaking Winslow.

RT @SprowESPN: Kellen Winslow gets ripped, but 437 catches since 2004 trail only Gonzalez, Witten and Gates among TEs.

Tweet by Shefter...but yeah, he is a bum. Seattle only had to give up a late round pic because of his salary, bottom line. Nobody can produce anything that he was a cancer to the Browns or the Bucs at any time. Just a figment of many people's imagination, pretty much spouting at the mouth with no regard to the facts.

Older, limited, and not what he was in 2007? Sure. Still one of the top receiving TEs in the league? yes.

See below:

“What’s going on in the Bucs locker room is there’s been a festering wound growing for a long time. What Greg is trying to do is clean out that wound,” Wunsch said.

There’s no denying that Winslow has been an important part of the Buccaneer offense, catching 218 passes over the past three seasons. As Schiano and the organization try to move forward, the overall health of the locker room and the team as a whole is much more important than the prowess of only one player.

“Winslow hasn’t shown Greg that he wants the job,” Wunsch said. “Winslow is a talented athlete, but that only takes you so far.”

Perhaps the tipping point came when Winslow skipped (voluntary) OTAs last week, OTAs that virtually all of his teammates were able to attend.

While the Bucs may part with one of the highest-paid tight ends in football, and essentially admit they
made a mistake back in 2009, this is without a doubt the right move for the organization moving forward.
The Bucs rid themselves of a potential lingering headache in the locker room and even found some value for the volatile Kellen Winslow.

As former Giants receiver Amani Toomer famously explained it during Super Bowl week on NBC SportsTalk, the development of Giants quarterback Eli Manning became impeded by the constant demands of former Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey for the ball. In light of evidence that Winslow may have been doing just that to Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman in 2011, it could be that the Bucs concluded that having Winslow on the roster would make it harder for Freeman to reach his full potential.

Browns GM defends suspension of TE Kellen Winslow. Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage emotionally defended his decision to suspend tight end Kellen Winslow, who claims the club tried to cover up his staph infection and has appealed his one-game ban without pay.Savage suspended Winslow for his disparaging comments and behavior following Sunday's loss in Washington. Winslow, who agreed to keep his medical condition private, revealed he had staph and said the Browns, who have had a high number of staph cases in recent years, still have a problem with infections.

In seven years of NFL football, he has 23 touchdowns. That would be just over 3 per season. He's had 13 in his three seasons with Tampa Bay, which isn't bad, but isn't stand-out. Comparing your guys' tweet, Tony Gonzalez has had 48 TDs over those seven years and 19 in the past 3 years with his new team. Antonio Gates has had 25 TDs in the past 3 years and 74 since 2004 (since his 2nd year in the pros). Just because a guy makes a lot of catches doesn't mean that he's a great player. It just means he catches the ball.

Here is a list of TEs that have performed better (in no particular order).

1) Tony Gonzalez
2) Antonio Gates
3) Jason Witten - 16 TDs in the past 3 seasons and 40 since 2004
4) Vernon Davis - 26 TDs in the past 3 seasons, 35 since his career started in 2006
5) Dallas Clark - 15 TDs in the past 3 seasons, 45 since 2004 (2003, he had 1)
6) Greg Olsen - 18 TDs in past 3 seasons, 25 since 2007
7) Heath Miller - Only 10 TDs in past 3 seasons, but 31 since 2005
8) Visanthe Shiancoe - 16 TDs in past 3 seasons, 25 since 2004
9) Todd Heap - Only 13 TDs in past 3 seasons, but 32 since 2004
10) Brent Celek - 17 TDs in past 3 seasons, only 19 since 2007

That is just 10 guys who've been around roughly as long as Winslow. This, mixed with the careless injury doing tricks on his motorcycle, his unwillingness to block, demand for the ball and personal fouls on the field tell me that this is more than a figment of one's imagination.

I think you guys let a 20 second clip from a 20 year old kid cloud your judgment on the actual player. There were weeks when he was on the Browns with a shoulder injury where he wasn't able to lift his arm to brush his teeth until mid week and he continued playing.... If his nickname was "White Rhino" he'd be praised as gritty. But it's that guy who called himself a soldier... So he's just a pussy. I get it.

Some of you used the term cancerous in regards to the locker room. I think you may be a little misguided on a cancer on an NFL team. Kellen wouldn't call out coaches or QBs. He never bad mouthed the fans when some of you were relentless with attacks on him because he wrecked a motorcycle. He does what kids do. He just got injured doing it.

The NFL locker room isn't some coombaya bon fire. You have fights, cliques, arguments. They're grown ups. And a 27 year old tight end wouldn't throw the entire lock room into a hissy fit like he does on message boards.

Rap, one of you're quotes was from bleachers report (lol) and another is defending Phil Savage and his mis handling of staph infections. If you're going to use a source to call a players character into question please be sure to use a reputable source. Kthanksbye

Best you've got? Neither you or PriceCarr have provided contrary evidence, while I provided it on my end. Just because BleacherReport was the source doesn't negate the fact that he was the only Buc to not attend OTAs. Those OTAs that everyone else deemed important with a new coach and system, Winslow just didn't feel like going.

The fact that you've only questioned the credibility of a factual statement on a suspect website tells me all I need to know about your side of the argument. Thanks for that.

Kellen wouldn't call out coaches or QBs.

K2 called out either the coaching staff or the front office on multiple occasions when he was in Cleveland. Once at the beginning of the 2006 season, again during the 2008 season when he had his staph infection.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that K2 has played for two different teams- '08 Browns and '11 Bucs- that flat laid down and quit on their coach.

Normally I don't care about personalities; just performance. I make an exception in K2's case. The guy has always been a jackass whose production hasn't equalled the headache. Glad he isn't coming back.

K2 is a tough dude, I've always said that. He played with some serious pain and played well in Cleveland. I've always questioned how long he could continue that. That is really my main problem with him. I don't think his body can last very long and frankly I'm shocked he's played as many games after Cleveland as he has. I don't think he has much in the tank and I'd rather give the PT to the younger guys who have the potential to produce at Winslow's Cleveland level.

That being said, the guy does have a bad attitude when it comes to the locker room, it's been printed by Cle media and it was his reputation in Miami. The guy lives on emotion and when things don't go his way he takes it out on others which leads to bad situations for the team. As someone said earlier, you can put up with that stuff when the player produces on the field but when the body breaks down and you aren't as effective any longer, NFL teams get less tolerant of such behavoirs.

While I don't think much of Bleacher reports. The one Rap posted basically mirrors what the link to the CBS report says. There were issues with Winslow. When he choose to skip the OTAs, that was enough. They shipped him out for basically nothing. They wanted to rid themselves of Kellen. It's rather telling that they would rather have a 32 year old Dallas Clark at TE.

Something I am sure you are forgetting was the period here where Kellen wanted his contract renegotiated. This came right after he FINALLY was able to piece together a season after his foolish motorcycle incident. Neglecting the fact that the Brown's had paid him more for when he wasn't playing then for when he was. Yes, he has a set of terrific hands. Could often pull in the impossible catch. But, sometimes other factors out weigh these abilities. He wouldn't block. He'd break off routs. Plus, the locker room issues we have been discussing. The real shame is who he could have been instead of who he is. The talent was there to be a yearly pro bowler. A possible hall of famer. But, the stuff between the ears always seems to get in the way.

I can't believe people on a Cleveland message board are coming to the defense of Kellen Winslow Jr.

I feel like I don't even need to explain my feelings because it's too obvious why I feel this way. Such a freakingly huge bust with so much freaking athleticism and potential out of college. I really thought we had one here moving up in a draft after all those busts to grab a sure stud. Goddamnit.

That was extremely foolish of you to think.
