His failure to manage minutes for Rubio probably contributed to that injury. I hope he learned something
I wouldn't go that far, I think Rubio's injury was just one of those things. So far JBB has been pushing buttons to win and if he didn't I don't think we'd be sitting as pretty as we currently are. It's ended up being a positive for team confidence and he's been teaching them to believe in themselves and one another. So although I've had concerns about excessive minutes so far JBB's strategy has worked out for the best with mostly a young squad. Our problem areas are KLove and Rondo's age, and the fact that we're so thin behind Darius Garland. If Garland goes down we're screwed.

I do believe JBB needs to take minutes into account for the post AS break part of the season and get everyone fresh and healthy as possible by spring playoff season.

“We feel that if we play hard and stay true to our system that we can beat anybody,” Kevin Love said. “We beat a very good team tonight. But now it’s getting guys in a mindset of, can we do it again? Can we do it night in and night out? To get to where we want to go, we’ve got to do it every single night. We want respect in this league. We want teams to understand that we want to bottle this up and make something special here.”

I started thinking about this last night.. as impressive and important as Love is to this team.. it's gonna be hard to replace him when he leaves/retires. It's hard to overstate just how important he is to the Cavs success this year. Here's to hoping he can keep playing at this level for a few more years (for the Cavs) but it's not a guarantee and even best case scenario is only that.. a few more years.

They are gonna need to start to plan how to replace his production and shooting when the time comes.

That why in the Long run that where I think LM role will eventually turn into……

This might be a hot take, but I’m enjoying him more now then I did during the title runs….Seen like it was so much pressure put on him along with the team , it was either Championship or busts …..

His defense isn't as much of a liability off the bench.

One thing I never liked about Love his is his scoring fell off quarter by quarter as he tired. I rarely liked him at the end of games. 20 min is the magic number and that luxury of staying fresh has made him much more effective. As a starter he was resting on the court constantly

I agree he not much of a 4th quarter threat on offense as his legs are done.... I think when he had that stretch when he was playing in the high 20s , I think it took alot out of his body and affected his game until he got his legs back under him...

I said it before, but his endurance has never been all that. Even when he had a really good team in Minny, they lost way more games than their numbers said they should.

On the Lebron teams he was really good at getting them a good lead right away and he had that 30 pt quarter in the 1st, but he routinely misses what should be gimme looks getting into 25+ minutes.

I don’t think anyone could’ve expected this, but K Love is quietly putting together an impressive Sixth Man of the Year campaign.

Our record is easily 5-6 games worse without his contributions. JBB has got his minutes just right to unlock his maximum effectiveness, and when the team is actually competitive you can see he’s just a winning player and provides a lot of intangibles.

10 points in the 4th quarter last night and a +17 for the game. The next closest was Goodwin at +6.

By the way, I wasn't aware Love even uses his legs except to get in position to take charges. On offense he gets the ball and either shoots immediately or pump fakes and shoots. Wherever he gets the ball is pretty much where he shoots from.

He does take that one step after the pump fake though.

If we have to depend on Love offense not to mention his defense in the 4th quarter that can be problematic, even some of his made baskets were he just turn around and threw it towards the rim on his midrange shots,….

On one hand I can agree I'd like to see JBB be very careful not to over-extend Love's minutes lest he wear down. Unfortunately our injuries dictate that we must put more reliance on Love for lack of having any other options.

OTOH, you understate Love's skill and experience. I wouldn't say he just "threw it", he was pretty methodical. He put on a master class on how to attack in the paint last night. He uses his body and strength to get an advantage and he can knock down the looks he gives himself at a high percentage. Plus he finally got his three ball going in after a cold start.

Out of necessity we ran our whole offense through him at times. He can hit from the perimeter, score in the post, score in the midrange, and he can assist at a very high level. If he had the youth and stamina to play like this for 35 minutes a game he's be a no-brainer all-star.

Kevin Love is a consumable pro. He’s highly skilled with a flawed frame. Kudos to JB for finding the sweet spot of utilizing his high skill and not wearing his frame out like past coaches have.
He might be consumable for some but not for all depending on how you roll.

He is a consummate professional though. :chuckle:
