Yeah the morale and leadership, longevity he brings to the team means too much. Let him retire here.

I don't know - both Mobley and Wade are still on the upward slope of their careers. But the fact that Mobley can also play center helps - they can have Allen, Mobley, Love, and Wade split the 96 minutes at the 4-5 positions. That would come out to about 18 minutes each for Love and Wade and 30 each for Mobley and Allen.

Small sample size though it may be, Kevin Love is leading the NBA in defensive rebounding percentage (43.0) and total rebounding percentage (23.1). Precious is second in DRB% at 34.53.

The DRB% mark would be a career high. It would also be the highest mark in NBA history.

No way that holds... Right? (He actually had a similar number in 2018-2019, but played in just 22 games)

This has been a damn good start to the year by K-Love.

Yeah, to start the year I was looking at Loves salary to fill out the trade for an upgrade at SF.. but I am thinking his impact on the team attitude might be too important for that. Net net we lose value if we re-up him on a cheaper contract, but I wouldn't mind retiring him to the rafters, especially if we win another chip..
Just can’t trading him now after last year and the start of this year

Wade can and should play at the 3.

I think he comes back next year, obviously at a lower salary.
I don’t think he does come back at a lower salary. With the way the cap keeps rising 30M isn’t that bad for him. I can see him getting 90M over 3 years.

I want to keep him if possible, can be our Haslem/Iggy/Nick Collison (but better) and grow old with the team :)

This matches what we see on the court and box score. He puts on a masterclass in positioning and using his body to grab a board in the way the other guys on the team haven't figured out. It's an insane margin, but I feel good about him continuing to overproduce in that area relative to his minutes.

One thing I'm not so sure will hold up is Kev's 103.8 def rtg - good for 7th in the league right now :chuckle:

The touch on his three-point shot is beautiful to watch. He shoots a soft shot and he's fucking sniping. My prediction: Kevin Love will eclipse LeBron as the only Cavalier ever with 2 rings and goes down as a top 5 Cavalier of all time.
I would love for this to happen.

KLove has been my favorite player of this era(post ‘00) and he’d be deserving of it. lebron brought what he did, and I appreciate him coming back, I really do. But his negative values were so much higher than they had to be, and that knocks him down in my eyes.

sebastian’s write up was spot on in another thread. Kyrie/LBJ was a magnificently talented train robbery/train wreck that got us a ’ship, but it was somehow boring and off court drama filled seasons leading up to the playoffs.

Absolutely astute! I agree.

Never say never ;o
Love's found a lot of success in a variety of lineups played so far.

Of course there's more to it than these 2-player numbers but:

In 82 minutes with Donovan+K-Love on the court, the Cavs have a 125.7 ORtg and 101 DRtg.

In 70 minutes with Caris+K-Love, the Cavs have a 124.8 ORtg and a 97.9 DRtg.

Those are the two highest minute pairings with K-Love thus far. The team rating with Allen+Love is phenomenal (121.2 ORtg, 87.8 DRtg) in 40ish minutes. Love+Mobley have been a negative so far (120.6, 122.4 DRtg) in 40ish minutes but if last night is any indication... things could turn around there!

Would be difficult to maintain these large net ratings, but if he gets the majority of his minutes with folks that yields low DRtg numbers for the team, he may finish higher in that overall DRtg that anyone anticipated.

it will be interesting to see which way Love wants to go. The team won't want to sink that much money into year 3- which would have him making 30 mil when he's an almost certainly depleted 37. But they might do a shorter term deal for a higher number or 3 years for less per. We are also have to have an eye for keeping enough room for locking up the young core. I think Kev will take a little less to stay in a situation that fits him, and no place can accentuate what he still does great while covering his weaknesses better than Cleveland.
