Did Koby Altman nail the rebuild?

Why do you think they haven't chosen a new name? Or even hinted at one? Because they are using it as a selling point. (eg. Buy a major league team and move/name it whatever and wherever you like! That's gotta buy you a couple extra percent on the sale.)

Dan could just as well make money off the arena after the Cavs move, but, admittedly, the Cavs moving is less likely over the next six years.

Because changing a team name from something it's been for over 100 years should take some time to make sure you get it right?

There's also logo design, uniform design, changing everything from signage to business cards - a name change takes A LOT.

I do think the name change was related to a possible sale (removing a toxic, controversial name does improve the value), but I don't think that sale will involve the team relocating.

The Cavs and Indians are dead men walking. They'll both be moved to other cities in the next six years.
MLB will not let tribe move. MLB makes no money when teams move. They want expansion teams so all teams receive huge expansion fees. Huge. Nashville for sure. Maybe Montreal or Portland. Not many major league cities left after those three.

I get a kick about our sportswriter we are going to trade our big men and not who we will get to replace them they want to get Javale and Drummond traded and we have no big men under contract if you are going to be a sportswriter you should have a little knowlege about who might replace them

Um, Charlotte, Raleigh, Austin or San Antonio, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, etc.

This isn’t Major League! You can’t just buy a team and move it! You have to meet certain criteria. And if I’m remembering correctly part of the agreement with Dan and city during the last bond issue to improve the Q (now Rocket M Fieldhouse) was even if he sold the team the prospective buyer had to agree to keep the team in Cleveland.

Good post. Altman took a couple of calcuated risks that did not pan out, unfortunately. He took the risk the Kevin Love would stay healthy and play well enough to give the Cavs $30 million worth of value for four years in a row. He also took a small risk on Kevin Porter Jr. Neither worked out as hoped, but the Love contract is hurting the team more than the Porter implosion.

A lot of people questioned taking 6'1" point guards in successive drafts and that is looking like a mistake. Both are legitimate NBA players, but having two ball-dominant small guards on the court at the same time isn't working very well.

Altman had some tough luck last year with the ping pong balls, getting the 5th pick when the Cavs' record should have placed them higher. But he still ended up taking another player who is small for his position.

He made some very nice moves in turning Kyrie Irving into Sexton, Nance, and Allen. Garland is only 21 and has a chance to be a Damon Lillard or Kyle Lowry, IMO, but it will take some time. Windler and Okoro are rookies - the jury is still out on them.

We really need to get lucky with the ping pong balls this year.

The Cavs have had as much bad luck in this rebuild as they had good luck in the years leading up to LeBron returning.

One hopes the bad luck ends because they really, REALLY need to get a good drafting position this year.

They need a real franchise player, not another conditional player with some promise.

Or at the very least a solid All-Star that can tie the disparate parts together.

Bad luck and incompetence is not a good combination

First of all, I wanna congratulate Altman on the fantastic Jarrett Allen trade. He swooped in & nabbed him out of nowhere. It took the right amount of circumstances for the trade to happen. First, we're lucky the Nets didn't extend him before the season started. He was eligible to an extention, but it didn't materialize. Also, if it wasn't for the Nets getting desperate for Harden, we wouldn't have Allen on this team.

I want to say, I'm loving the new additions to this team. Windler, Okoro & Allen all have bright futures in this league. If Windler or Okoro can play the 2, that's a big plus. Prince is another new addition who has alot of upside as a role player. I hope we keep him. Mcgee has had his moments.

Lastly, I want to say something about the Drummond & Love situation. My question is, why not keep both? This team is in no rush to dump salary, or at least it shouldn't be. We have the second richest owner in the league. That shouldn't be taken for granted. I'm 100% sure Gilbert would love to splurge money on this roster, even if that means paying luxury tax.

What I want to get into is that we could keep both Love & Drummond as backups. I'm not sure Drummond would be content with this, but why not try? He would feast on second units. As for Kevin Love, he's Ryan Anderson @ this point, which isn't a knock on him. Anderson re-invented himself as a pure stretch big & got paid by Houston. Love is too injury prone so keeping his minutes down should be a priority. Imagine a frontcourt rotation of Nance, Allen, Love & Drummond. That'd be top notch, best big man rotation in the entire league.

PG: Collin Sexton / Quinn Cook / Matthew Dellavedova
SG: Darius Garland / Dylan Windler / Damyean Dotson
SF: Isaac Okoro / Cedi Osman / Taurean Prince
PF: Larry Nance Jr. / Kevin Love / Dean Wade
C: Jarrett Allen / Andre Drummond / Javale Mcgee
Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff

That's a team with a bright future. I wonder what the Cavs will do with their MLE this offseason. The draft is looming in a couple months. There will be plenty of opportunities to add talent to this roster.

How is Okoro supposed to play the 2 if he can’t even dribble or shoot? Honest question. How are you concluding that he will figure one of those things out, let alone two? Because saying he has a bright future implies as much.

listing a bunch of names in a nice format doesn’t mean the names mean anything good. Cedi is trash. Prince is trash. McGee is 33 years old and a pending UFA. Drummond Is a pending UFA and benched despite making nearly $30m. Love and Nance are utterly incapable of staying healthy and this will only get worse with time. There’s maybe 2.5 good players in that entire list. And 2 of those 2.5 play the same position!

this rebuild looks real good with Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green or Jonathon Kuminga.
I wonder how it looks with a max'd out Allen and Sexton and like Keon Johnson.

Barring a competent draft, a huge off season and a major turn around I don’t Koby surviving next season. Word out of Cleveland is Dollar Dan is looking at turning over the franchise to his 23 year old son (Chris Gilbert) sooner than later as he’s running things anyways and it’s been reported he’s looking at some FO changes.

I don’t think okoro can play anything but the 2. He’s too small to play 3. He looks way overmatched there.
