I guess we could find a spot for LeBron.

At the right price.

This is true but almost all great teams are built around at least one, if not several, strokes of lotto luck or top4 picks in loads drafts.
He doesn't deserve credit for moving from 5 to 3, but its also not his fault the way the 2018-2020 draft lotto nights went. He could have drafted different at 8, 8, and 5 and in some cases better on those nights but also could have done worse.

I'm thinking in the positive of the more recent sequence of moves:
-Getting Allen in facilitating the Harden deal.
-Prince for Rubio
-Allen extension (locked in at a great price)
-Lauri trade. I think this will be a net positive in the end
-Not extending Sexton prematurely. We still have the RFA right and can buy more time to best determine what to do with Sexton.

All that said, I still think he's middling at best and yes, being lucky enough to draft Mobley, who you can build around for 10 years + is more important than any one of those other moves and likely more than any of them combined.

My main point was just interest in the philosophical idea of if the team is winning and the playing well, is it possible to see both the coach and GM as horrible, especially in a case where it's not an inherited roster.

For sure. And to clarify, my comment wasn't overly negative on Koby, it just speaks to how luck can play such an important role sometimes in a GM's career.

I think Koby "won" a lot of transactions but we were mainly left with disperate pieces that didn't make a ton of sense together. Then we get one great stroke of luck to land in the top 3, then another that teams in front of us made mistakes.....and suddenly, we have found ourselves this multi dimensional, generational defender that makes it all work.

Add to your point, I don't know that is possible to see both as horrible. Koby is an average NBA GM to me. He's made some shrewd moves and had just enough luck to probably stick around for awhile. JBB I'm pretty luke warm on........BUT, the NBA doesn't have many great or even good coaches, so for now, you probably lean on how much he is liked by the players and ride with him. He's potentially a good candidate to b surrounded by several good tactical young coaches and have him operate more of a non coordinating NFL head coaching type role. Can he be Pete Carrol?

I'm wouldn't replace JB unless you get someone actually good like you say. He has the ear of the team, so that's the most important thing

Jarrett Allen is his biggest gm win. Mobley is his best luck.

When it is all said and done they are what their record says they are. Things are trending up, we'll see where it goes from here. I think the team will sustain, grow, and get better. At the same time opponents will find ways to counter what is working for us. The Raptors showed some of what could be done to jam up our offense.

Ultimately it will come down to how we adjust to the adjustments opponents make. And, if this group of players can impose their will on a variety of different challenges. So far so good, hope it stays on the rails.

This guy is lokey on Masa Ujuri level. He made some mistakes early on (Probably due to Gilberts involvement) like the Love contract, and the weak Kyrie trad but he's been on a roll since. That Allen trade was just amazing and then the Mobley pick ( Even though that has more to do with luck of the lottery ). Now the Rubio trade. Can't say the man isnt getting better and better as a GM.

Cavs looking so good - with Garland, Mobley, and Allen - that Lebron might want to do his farewell tour here. It probably looks nice in Cleveland compared to that headache out there in LA.

Relax I'm mostly joking lol. Unless he was going to play 25 minutes and have minimal involvement in team decisions, I wouldn't want that for us.

Unlike a lot of people, whether based on emotions or basketball reasons, I am not opposed to the idea of LeBron doing a final season or two in Cleveland(I do not think it will happen though)

I just would only support it if he joins via FA, either for the MLE or with cap space that does not need to be created for him. ie. If he wants to come back in a year or two for a retirement tour and still give a strong effort, I'd be fine with that, just not at the expense of a single draft pick or young player. And with no conditions or expectations from him of us adding vets to the roster. in this scenrario, he is the god damn vet lol

I completely understand people who just don't want to go through the circus that can accompany LeBron and like I said up post, I don't believe he will return(unless its one of those sign a 1 day deal and retire setups)
I think he rather retire a Laker

If things are still going this well in January I will make a public apology for all the times I mocked this thread

Well he’s certainly been given a long enough time. 4 years under Gilbert is like 20 years under any other owner.
