I do wish we had drafted Keldon Johnson instead of Windler
He was by far the consensus pick..
I do wish we had drafted Keldon Johnson instead of Windler
That was Wojs call. Must have almost done it
Almost did then pivoted apparently
I don't know if I will regret this three years from now, but man I really like the way things are going. Sexton, Garland, Allen, Okoro, Windler, KPJ is a crapton of young talent distributed amongst different positions, and we have "young enough" talent in Nance, Prince, Cedi to round it out / fill in gaps.
Get a stretch four like a Kevin Love type and we are golden!
I hope the owners figure out the players forcing their way out thing. Because it’s hard to get excited about acquisitions knowing they can force their way out immediately after securing their bag
I must only watch the games Larry shoots poorly in because I thought he regressed this year on 3pt shooting, turns out its the opposite...
Depends on how the rest of the roster shakes out, if KPJ/Okoro can play SF, etc etc but yeah definitely we are priming ourselves to be in a position where we are one piece away.
This is similar to a post I have on another thread. We really ended up doing pretty well out of the Kyrie trade, plus Boston got screwed.I'm trying to update the Kyrie Irving trade, in which the Cavs got Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, Brooklyn's 1st round pick in 2018 (Collin Sexton), and Miami's 2020 2nd round pick.
Today's trade of Exum and Milwaukee's first round pick next year for Allen and Prince can be traced directly back to the Kyrie trade. Exum came from Utah in the Jordan Clarkson deal. Clarkson was obtained from the Lakers with Larry Nance Jr in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, and our 2018 1st rounder.
Milwaukee's first round pick next year was obtained as part of the George Hill trade. Hill was obtained by the Cavs in a trade for Jae Crowder.
We also got Larry Nance Jr from the Lakers in the Isaiah Thomas deal, in which we also gave up our 2018 first round pick which the Lakers used to take Moritz Wagner.
In the Jae Crowder deal we got Hill and Rodney Hood. Hill was later traded for a package that included John Henson while Hood was traded for a package that included Brandon Knight. Henson and Knight were traded for Andre Drummond, so Drummond was also obtained for players we got for the guys we received for Kyrie.
Matthew Dellavedova was also obtained in the George Hill trade.
So the players currently on the Cavs' roster that were obtained directly from proceeds of the Irving trade (plus a late first round pick (Wagner) and a few spare parts like Derrick Rose, Channing Frye, Sam Dekkar, and Iman Shumpert) are Sexton, Nance, Allen, Drummond, Prince, and Delly.
Would the Nets trade Kyrie back to the Cavs tomorrow for Sexton, Nance, Allen, Drummond, Prince, and Delly (if they could make the money work)? Yeah, I'm pretty sure they would.
That's not a bad team: Drummond and Allen at center, Nance at the 4, Prince at the 3, Sexton at the 2 and Delly at PG. All in exchange for Kyrie and the pick that was used to take Moritz Wagner. Plus we got to enjoy Clarkson for a couple of years before we traded him.
Not a bad rebuild. Add drafted players Garland, Porter, Okoro, Osman, and Windler plus a couple of affordable free agents (McGee, Dotson) and here we are. But the Kyrie trade is the gift that keeps on giving. Maybe we trade Drummond for another young piece.
