LaRussa punishing rookie for.. hitting a home run?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hopefully this causes drama within the Sox clubhouse. I’ll take anything we can get to keep the division close.

Tony Pena swung at a 3-0 pitch in 1995 when he had a red light.
yes off PITCHER Zane Smith in extra innings of a playoff game..

Yermin swings & goes yard off a 48 mph pitch from a position player as the ChiSox were already up 15-4 in the 9th.

Not exactly the same..

BTW ... Twins came back to win tonight 5-4 with a walk off in the 9th. Perhaps part of the TLR thinking was let the sleeping dog lie. Instead the Twins woke up pissed.

So you think the batter should just give himself up? lmfao

Come on Tex. I didn't say that at all. I pointed out the 2 situations were very different.

Also, I didn't say I agreed with TLR actions. I pointed out reasons TLR might not want to piss off the opponent (wake up a sleeping Twins team/ concern over retaliation injury).

There is a difference between agreeing with a person & understanding their viewpoint/ where they are coming from.

As a Tribe fan if this mucks up the ChiSox clubhouse I am all for it. Grab the popcorn & enjoy the show.. :popc1:

As Tribe fans, we should be thrilled that La Russa is such a stupid asshole because that clubhouse in Chicago is about to revolt.
So, let me get this straight... he has a problem with his own damn player hitting a home run, but doesn't have a problem with an opposing pitcher throwing at his guy? How big of a stupid ass hole is this guy?! More importantly, why in the world would you wanna play for a manager like that?

Well let me just say I think LaRussa is a dipshit here. WTF does he expect his guys to do? So if Mercedes took a strike and then hits a dinger on the 3-1 pitch that is ok? And you are right, if I'm a White Sox player LaRussa just lost me.

The only two unwritten rules of baseball that should exist.

1. Do not intentionally hit batters with pitches for any reason.
2. Do not intentionally spike or pound defenders when running the bases.

Other than intentionally trying to hurt people, everything else should be 100% fair game.

I agree with everyone here to the extent that anything that messes up the White Sox clubhouse and puts players on edge is fine with me.

Where I completely disagree with most here is the idea that a manager can put the take sign on and the player can simply ignore it because, well, baseball. And I wanna hit a home run. Sorry, there has to be more discipline than that. To me, that's the issue, not all the other unwritten rules crapola.

And Yermin is widely regarded within the game as a knucklehead, which is one reason why this marvelous hitter--aside from the fact he never put any effort in his defensive craft--took so long to find an opportunity with a big league club. Even then, his arrival as a south side folk hero is a happy accident solely due to Eloy's injury. Rather than be thanking his lucky stars he had an opportunity to finally show off his talents, he instead decides to highlight the kind of insouciant behavior that held him back in the minor leagues. Like I said, minor league attitude, major league knucklehead.

major league knucklehead.
Sounds like an apt description for someone who gets upset when a player, who is paid off their statistical performance, performs.

He's at the plate. You can't just "skip" on an AB. Yermin's career earnings go down if he makes an out. They go up if he does well. If the manager is trying to tank your career earnings, well, he shouldn't be in a position of power anymore.

LaRussa / White Sox doesn't appear to have. a good ending - which is fine by me
