I kinda felt like he was forcing it vs Chicago. Even in a preseason game he wanted to show them they were wrong about him. The last 2 games seem to be him just playing his game without trying to force it.

I had the true pleasure of hosting Finnish army officers when I was in the US Army and they were truly professional and amazing party animals. And I am actually a historian that specializes somewhat in Nordic history in the modern era, with a focus on the Napoleonic Era, WWI-WWII and the Cold War. And Finland plays a major role in all three of those eras! And I am something of a foreign policy wonk and a specialist in Nordic defense policy (will you buy the F-35 of the JAS-39E?).

And of course, one cannot compliment a Finn without saluting the great Marshal of Finland, Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim.

Markkanen has so far gave few short interviews to Finnish media during pre season games and one longer one before pre season games to a Finnish podcast. There's hasn't been anything that special or anything that would make big headlines but I try to collect here some key points:

Leaving Chicago:
- The damage was basically done during Jim Boylen era. Markkanen started his last season with Bulls wwith high hopes but after injury and all the trades, he knew he wanted a fresh start somewhere else.
- He really thought he was going to Spurs, but Chicago cancelled the deal in the last minute, beacause they didn't get enough compensate for Lauri. All the rumors that Lauri asked too much are rubbish.

Cleveland/Cavs:
- After living in skyscraper in crowded Chicago, Lauri and his family feel much more comfortable in Cleveland (some sub-urban area it seems, he didn't specify that sorry.)
- Lauri said that during practises they have tried many different options for the big men and he feels that is one advantage on Cavs team. He doesn't feel concerned about his playing time or role.
- He can and also is willing to play also SF so that team can get Markkanen/Mobley/Allen at the court same time which can be good combination against smaller defenders. (This is what they did last night against Bulls and based on highlights I saw, worked ok)
- Markkanen gave credit especially to Rubio and said he is very clever player and makes the game look so easy.

Lauri can do a lot more for us than Nance could. We needed scoring, not just defense

Pelicans aren't in the market for small undersized guards like Sexton or Garland. They for some reason paid Devontae Graham and gave up a first to acquire him.

I hope Lauri develops a post game and rebounding this season. He gets out of position when trying to grab rebounds...

You just know his outside shot is going to start falling. If he gets it through his head that he is indeed 7 ft. tall and plays more like it (like he did tonight) he can be a mismatch.
